I'm looking to buy another helmet. The 2 i have "looked" at so far, haven't tried yet, are the Louis Garneau Gladiator (21 vents) and Specialized Enduro Comp 03 (15 vents). Has anyone tried these before? They are $60.00 CDN. My price range is below $70 hopefully. I have also looked at the Giro Mojave, but they do not have my color. That was $82. So what do you guys think? Which one is the "safest" so my melon is safe. Comfortness is an issue too. I heard you guys say the RocLoc system is good in the E2 thread. ANY other suggestions are good too!!

I think for the most part any $30 (arbitrary price) Snell/ANSI certified helmet will help keep your head safe. Beyond that, you're paying for style and comfort (and sometimes name brand). Higher priced helmets have nicer adjustment features, better vents (not necessarily more or less), are more aerodynamic and come in cooler colours (and/or patterns) and shapes.

How well a given helmet fits YOUR head and how effectively its retention straps will keep it in place during a mishap are arguably the most important considerations for helmet shopping. Several forum members, myself included, like our Giro helmets, and I have been satisfied with Bells in the past.

Bell Phi Pro '02 model. Very good, very slick helmet. Light and lots of air flow.

I see...
Many of the helmets I see don't say SNELL/ANSI certified. So far the only one I've seen is CPSC for Giro. I don't even know what that is.

I have a Specialized Enduro Comp either from 02 or 03 and I think it could use more vents myself. After riding with my gf's Specialized Allez, the Enduro Comp leaves a bit to be desired. Since you seem to have the more oval heads (as opposed to the round Giros), I suggest you'd go with the Louis Garneau helmets. If I ever replace mine, I think I'd get the Aki.

I guess the ANSI standard is defunct. The Snell standard is the same as CPSC's.
