Bicycle Mechanics - Can I service these MKS GR-9's without mangling the dustcap?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just got these MKS GR-9' (http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/pedals.html#platform)s, and the bearings feel crappy. I'd like to repack them, see if that helps them spin better. I haven't serviced pedals before, first off. But this question is, can I remove the dustcaps without mangling them? Is there a special tool for this?
Does Sheldon or anyone have anything written online about servicing these pedals?

Maybe something like this (http://www.rivbike.com/webalog/tools/19059.html)?

I actually have that tool but I didn't know it, I've only used the chainring bolt side. But when I use it to try to remove the dustcap it just seems to spin and spin and not back out of the pedal.

Where did you purchase the pedals?

Ben's cycle, in Milwaukee. They're new.

Do they know how to open the dustcap? If they don't, I'd suggest calling or emailing Harris Cyclery in MA. Their site says that those pedals can be serviced.
Put the pedals on and ride em awhile, they'll smooth out considerably (so says the owner of three sets)
