Foo - Creative uses for bike tubes

I lost the coolant bottle lid on my Jeep and replaced it with piece of bike tube tied to a knot on the top end. Do you use bike tube for other stuff than biking? My old man tought me to cut it for rubber bands, the owner of a bike shop who built my first bike used old tubes to hang power tools from the ceiling to have them handy...

Long time ago I had problem to find a pipe for kitchen sink drain, there was no room to do it and I eventually had to heat up and form a pipe to fit in there. As a temporary solution - you guessed it :) - I used a piece of bike tube. It worked just fine for 6 month:)

After I got a new car, I checked to see if the mounts for my Yakima roof rack will fit. Nope. new mounts cost $30. Shimming the old ones with old inner tube cost $0. Works great!

them snakes I am using now are protesting too loud:)

I have used bike tubes for all kinds of things.

I wrap them under my kids' arms and bounce them up and down and swing them around and stuff.
Play tug-o-war with the dog (old tires are good for this too)
As shims for blinkys and headlights.
As tie downs on my rack
To protect my bike's finish from my bike trailer hitch
To tie (good) spare tube to the seat rails of my bike.
As patches for other tubes, works fine in a pinch. When I was a kid I never bought patches
I once used the valve stems and little round "nuts" from a couple of bad schrader valve tubes as hardware to attach a rack in a pinch.

shims, rubber bands, sleeves for tools in saddle bag to cut down on noise, love swing, that's about it.

I leave several tubes on the pipe rack on my truck and use them to hold my bikes upright and out of contact with anything rough.

They work good for holding small toolboxes together that the hinges have long since broken off.

One time my chain broke completely off which rendered my drivetrain completely useless. Not having a chainbreaker or spare chain handy. I was now riding a very expensive push scooter.

We had to call the ride off, but I was hopelessly falling behind my other friends who were able to pedal. "here" said my friend, handing me his spare tube. We cut it to make a really long "rope," then tied one end to his seatpost and the other to my handlebar. Voila, tow cable!

My personal bike mechanic shocked me the first time by hoisting my bike up onto his garage door so it was suspended using an old bike tube.

I have some old tubes around the legs of my bed...

High powered rock launcher. All you gotta do is have 2 people holding the ends, and put a rock in the middle. Pull back, and it's a big ass sling shot. We almost did that to cars that would drive by the tents on the michigander honking their horns to wake people up, but the car we were gonna blast went away.
