I think they ask they to withdraw & go home to eliminate the media circus. Also if a rider on that team won, it would be suspicious. That's my take.

If one person in the team dopes, and that means the others on the team probably do too... then the other teams who have no trouble competing with this team are probably all doping too!:eek:

All the riders and the teams signed pledges not to dope this year. A rider breaking the pledge, also invalidates the pledge that the team made - ergo expulsion.

Ok...so you have a team of a dozen riders and one comes up dirty. Assuming that all the others were clean, why does the whole team have to bail? If that happened in baseball or football, there wouldn't be anybody playing!

I've heard this is an 'honor' thing but in some respects isn't that a bit unfair to the other team riders?

Perhaps it means the team got a bad batch of detectable 'roids/juice/whatever. Taking the whole team out prevents any more from getting caught.

Rassmussen & the others removed may be p.o'd about getting pulled without testing positive. But in fact, since they weren't busted for drugs, they won't get banned for two years, have to give back a years salary etc etc etc.

Yes, finally, they're starting to implement methods that actually give riders incentive not to dope. The obvious way to fight against doping successfully would be to make it so the cyclists will actually dislike it if the others dope. Throughout history, everyone helped everyone else dope, and everyone kept the silence. Organized crime.

Exactly, but also everyone on the team is linked to the dirty rider. And as seeing they are all on the same team as the dirty rider, there is a high possibility of the other riders being guilty. Technically, the other team riders are just being investigated and not guilty of any doping.

It's like in the military in basic training. When one person in your company fouls up, they often punish the whole company.

I think sponsor pressure also amounts to this.

Bingo - that's the great thing about this new development. It makes everyone in the team responsible for each other. Sure there will still be some who don't care what they do to their teammates but a lot will. Plus when these guys live together it's hard to hide stuff from each other. For example there have been stories about team riders seeing another rider walking around with a testosterone patch and thinking "well, that's his business". No more. Now it's gonna be "WTF is wrong with you?!? I'm reportin' you to the DS!". Then give him the old soap-in-the-sock treatment in the middle of the night.

In Rasmussen's case the Rabobank Board of Directors actually got involved which I think is great.
