Hi,
I'd love to take credit for this, but it was an accident. My LBS ordered me
a Thompson, wasn't sure of the length, got me the longest one.

It was too long.

So they cut 1/8" off and now I have a post that will never, ever slip.

I feel more connected to the bike. Which is good, it feels more efficient.
Who would have thought a seatpost could bob a little? However, I feel the bumps
a little more.

Slipping seatposts has been a problem for me for years. If you remember the Italy pics I threw up, the darn seatpost was low in a couple.

Anyway... if you have problems with the post slipping, getting a real long seatpost might be worth trying.

Could someone delete this?
Thanks.

Thomson (no P) seat posts deliver. Not only are they long, but they are strong. They are expensive, but after I snapped a cheapie off last year, it is well worth your *****.

I'm not sure how LONGER will prevent slippage.

Don't say snapped... my new bike has a CF seat post and it makes me a bit nervous...:D:D:D

The Constrictor (Surly) clamp on the Cross-Check has been holding just fine. I'm amazed, actually.

OK. It gave out over a course of about 10 seconds. I thought is was the saddle giving way when "poop" the whole seat post snapped off. TIP: If you feel like you saddle is giving way, it probably is :D

:D:D:D Actually I though it happened already. My sadle adjustment bolt wasn't tight on my post and my saddle suddenly rocked back when I was flying down the road. I about crapped myself.:D I make sure I tighen the saddle asjustment bolt now.

It hits bottom. You know, I wonder if my bike has a piece of tubing inside the seat tube to strengthen the bottom bracket area.

This was my biggest problem when I first started cycling. Many times I tried adjusting and screwed up and ended up riding home on a loose seat.

Finally I got rid of the quick release and got a standard clamp and never had problems with those.

I have a standard clamp with the allen bolt + no problems. Surly CC and 310lbs.

It's also less tempting/easy to steal my Brooks saddle

One of the first things I did with my new road bike was replace the CF seatpost with a Thomson.
