We had to put our dog Schmegan Megan to sleep yesterday at noon. She was a great dog. I turned myspace into a sort of a memorial for her until I finish the video clip.

Thanks guys...she was 14 and a half years old...she was a german shepard and doberman mix. usually those dogs tend to get hip displasia and at first thats what we thought it was. It turned out to be a nerve problem in her back instead. we took her to the vet before Christmas and got her fixed up and they prescribed drugs that seemed to help. But for the last week or so...she couldnt even stand up with help. We had to carry her around the back yard in a sling and we could tell that she wasnt happy about it.
Saddest thing I've ever seen...and thats saying alot :(
I havent been around much of late...but it is my busy season at work and I have far less time on my hands, not to mention the wedding planning.
But Foo is my second home and I appreciate you guys and all the help and support you generate. I only hope that I can return the favor at times :)
If it wasnt for the bike forum my bike would still be in alot of pieces...and they would all be the wrong parts ;)
Thanks Siu and Mish thanks you too :)
((((Hugs)))) I'm sorry for your loss.

The only thing worse than losing a dog is watching a dog get sick until you lose him.:(
My lab, Murphy, who I love dearly and who I would sometimes like to have outlive me, was dangerously sick with Addison's last year. We brought her home one night after a vet visit, thinking this would be her last night with us. I hope no one ever feels that again, losing a dog is devastating. I'm so sorry for your loss, and believe me, I am.:(

So true :(
I heard someone say this the other day and I agree - we're able to treat our pets better than our own elderly. So sorry for your loss, she's pain-free now.

Wow, that sucks, earlier this year we had to put down our family dog after 17 years. I can't think of the last time (including funerals) where all of my immediate family cried except for that day.
I hope you keep all the happy memories in your heart for years to come.
Oh I'm SOOOO sorry. :( I couldn't imagine losing my buddy. He is my life.
*HUGS* to you!!!!

So sorry for your loss. That's sad, what happened to Megan. I hope you find some comfort in knowing that you did the right thing.
Take care.
Aww, she looks like such a sweetheart. :( I know this is kind of corny as hell, but it comforts me (and chokes me up)... Rainbow Bridge (http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm)

I'm truly sorry MB. It really hurts to lose pets. A lot of people don't understand how hard it is but there a quite a few here on Foo that do.
And, aprilm, I don't think it's corny at all. But maybe that's because I can't get through it without crying.

I will say a prayer to St. Francis of Assisi for her...............Hey, maybe her and Rommel can hang out together up there. Rommel was my litttle schanuzer of 19 years. Cried like a baby for three days.
All dogs go straight to heaven!

Something I wrote a few years back...
The Thousand
They’ve gone for now
Yes, gone my friend
They’ve gone to run with the thousand.
You’re tired now
Yes, tired my friend
Stop now and run with the thousand.
They’re waiting now
Yes, waiting my friend
For you to run with the thousand.
It’s your turn now
Yes, your turn my friend
Your turn to run with the thousand.
So long for now
So long my friend
You’ve gone to run with the thousand.
Don’t worry now
Don’t worry my friend
We’ll meet when I run with the thousand.

Michelle and I thank you guys for all the kind things you've said. It was hard to lose her and we still think about her all day long. but luckily we have lots of pictures and even some small video footage. I am going to make it into a small memorial video...been working on it but its going slow. Trying to scan all the pictures we need for it and its taking awhile ;)
thanks again foo!
So sorry to hear it MB... It was probably the best thing to do, but it takes time before you really, truly believe it. :(

Sorry MB - my condolences. :(
:( Sorry.
I still miss my best little 9 lb Mindy friend who spent 16-1/2 years doing a lot of the same things I do - traveling, sailing, whitewater rafting and navigating bar doors (she could get out of a car and run into at least 9 bars - know exactly where everything was - and got treats from the bartenders. luved that little cranky dog...

It is always hard to loose a family friend that has been in your house for a period of time.
