Austin Foosters:
This guy was doing mobile piercings last week at teenage parties last week on the SW Side of Austin. He pierced my 14 year old nieces tongue and it's not cool! If she was 18, it wouldn't be an issue, but she's a MINOR. I would like to find this guy....

I have alot of piercings myself, but this is not cool. Besides the obvious (body piercing minor w/o parental consent) AFAIK, mobile piercings and "piercing parties" are illegal in some places (depends on the health code).

He's a pro, it should not be hard to track him down. Chances are he'd done this alot. Have you contacted the police?
Post on the Texas subforum, lots of Austinites in there. Sorry to hear about the scumbag piercing a minor. I agree, NOT COOL!

Check out www.bmezine.com and see if they have a way of tracking him down. There's a large body modification community there and one of them may know him.
No self-respecting member of BMEzine will be doing what he's doing, but they may know him and want him to be fined. It's people like that which give many piercers a bad rep.
Note: www.bmezine.com is NOT NOT NOT work safe.

If it makes you feel any better, tongue piercings close up very fast when the jewelry is removed.

I know, but unfortunately, he did it while she had strep throat and there is a little issue with post procedure infection.

OMG Stop it!!! You BRAT!!
*flicks KT on fore head*
Is her tongue getting infected or is it just swollen from the procedure? Use lots of listerine and have her suck on ice. No real eating for at least a couple of days. She can drink things like Carnation instant breakfast for nutrition till then. This is what they told my girlfriend to do when she got hers done and it got really swollen more than it should have.

No Listerine! Use Biotene! It won't kill the healing tissue.

Tom, you should take her to a doctor if her jaw and neck are hurting after the procedure...especially if she has strep throat. Opening up a wound to a strain of strep like that is bad...

Oh. My bad. That's just what they told her. But if I recall, you have more piercings than she does! :D
I second the Dr. suggestion. Don't know what is going on in her body or what he used to penetrate her tissue. Or if it was clean. :o

She's going in the AM. My sister is taking her, at my recommendation. I'd do it, but I'm in Indiana, 1130 miles away!

No worries! A lot of people use and recomment Listerine because of it's strong antibacterial properties. The problem is that the chemicals that kill gingivitis also destroy healing tissue and increase the chances of scar tissue forming. Biotene is much gentler, as it takes a different approach to oral cleaning. If I recall correctly, it even has some probiotics.
Good on your sister for taking her daughter to the Dr tomorrow, Tom. It's time to kick some bad-piercer butt!
Oh, BMEzine also has tons of information on how to find a good piercer, why people want piercings, etc. I think it's a good read for any parent or one who is in a position to look after those who aren't terribly responsible.

No one has mentioned this but you may also be able to pursue charges or sanctions on the host of the party. In some places it is similar to hosting an underage drinking party. Where they provided the space for the "piercing artist" to provide services they may share some liablility. I'm not sure how far you want to take this but that may be a quick way to find this piercer. I bet some muscle on the host would cause him/her to roll on the "artist" right quick.

Hey Tom - I'm in Austin. I don't do the piercing thing (and only have 1 tattoo that I got years ago) but I know some people who might know him. Do you have any info - a name or anything? Feel free to PM me if necessary.

Agreed^1000. It's people like this who give legit piercers a bad name. There really is a right and safe way to do this stuff, and it's a real shame that more people don't know this.
Tom- I saw in the other posts that your sister is taking her to the doc today- I hope all is OK!

Makes me want to make a VegaVixenWhupAss road trip to Austin.
I'd like to pierce that guy's "lower" tongue with my foot!
Tom, some of that jaw pain might be because he strained the ligaments tempero-mandibular joint. Might suggest to your sister to have her see a dentist, or otherwise ask the doc to check that nothing is amiss. I have TMJ syndrome from a freak accident when I was 12. It still dislocates once in a while. I literally have to hit myself in the jaw, which hurts like hell, to get it to pop back into position, and then it's sore as hell for a day or so. Not unlike any other dislocation.

that's terrible, who was hosting this party?
were the girls left alone?
dont they need someone's over 18 consent to do this? Id check into this ( but you probably did) someone could of sign for her and that's also who you want to go after.

Austin piercers have a great reputation in general, especially in the sanitation department. I'm pretty sure most of them would love to find out who the offender is, mainly for their reputation of their shops, and the city market as a whole.
any luck finding the guy yet?

Had a hit on the thread I posted in the TX Forum.....good info on possibly the person involved. It's been turned over to the County Attorney in Austin.:D
Quick update: My niece's jaw and neck pain turned out to be related to the nerve being damaged in the piercing process.

That doesn't make sense to me. Nerve damage from a tongue piercing wouldn't go to the neck and jaw...not as far as I can see...

Inflammation of the other nerves from sympathetic histamine reaction. Some infection as well, causing swelling and pressure in the glands from what my sister told me. Remember, my niece also had strep throat when this was done.

I think Cranial Nerves IX , X, XI, or XII could be injured from an infection in the toungue that caused swelling and other inflammatory responses, IIRC.

It's actually a medical procedure and in most states requires licensing!

That makes sense. When Tom said that it was from the piercing, I was thinking from the piercing itself, not from the effects of moderate-to-severe infection from lack-of sterilization and surrounding issues.

And right you are to be teed. Legallly, this is at least assault, and fundamentally, it's unethical as hell. I mentioned it last night to my older daughter and she was pissed. She's got some hardware, but goes only to reputable shops where the operators are all licensed and inspected. When she got her first piercing there, she was under 18, so I had to sign a waiver, a consent form, and so did she. I had to be in the room with her- they require it by state law. And everything was done with impeccable sterile technique. I was impressed, and have total confidence that they know exactly what they are doing.)
I wish only the best for your niece Tom- alas, the mouth is a pretty dirty place, and with a strep infection, even nastier. She's getting care now, though, so she should be OK.
