but what I couldnt understand is some of the lingo used in the thread what the hell is a Cat2 rider or Cat4 rider was I supposed to sign up for some certificate for miles I log on my bike? :)

Cat levels are skill categories in the usa cycling system is based on ability and experience. Cat 5 is the lowest category cat 1 is the highest. See http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=580 for some info on the topic.

LOL! Good question! Didn't your LBS give you a license when you bought your bike? Mine says "CAT10" on it. http://www.comicguide.net/images/smilies/biker1.gif
Seriously though, I didn't know what that meant either. Now that I do know, it will never apply to me.

The Cat's are categories in the USCF (United States Cycling Federation), by the way. They are used in Track and Criteriums and road racing.
