Classic & Vintage - Positron Shifter on Varsity

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So I'm trying to fix my brothers old varsity and it has positron shifters. I put on new tubes and tires and took it out for a ride. The first time I tried to shift the rear derailleur, the shifter cable came out of the shift lever?? Does this mean I need a new cable and is Ebay the only place I'm going to find one?

Ebay is probably your best shot, although there may be some other sources if you look through the links in the sticky of vintage links at the top of the forum.
However, if the RD is Positron II and you want a NOS RD to replace at the same time, I have one you can have... for the cost of postage. Send PM if interested.
... or just upgrade to a more conventional rear derailleur, cable, and shifter.
