Once you have the picture uploaded on Flickr, all you have to do is to click on the little icon here that suggests 2 mountains with a yellow background (INSERT IMAGE). A new windows will pop open, asking for the url or the address of the picture you feel like sharing. Paste that information here (that information can be achieved by right clicking on the image, choosing properties and highlighting the full "address" of the image).

Once highlighted, click simutaneously control+C on your keyboard or right click again and choose COPY).
Once the address is pasted into the poped windows (to paste, click simutaneously control + V on your keyboard or simply right click on the proper space inside the poped up window and choose PASTE) click OK.


Once you submit your reply you should have something like this WASP on your message:

Just one small problem - the gear cable is waiting to get wound up in the back wheel. Brake cable, too.

I just bought a compressor - I think my R20 is pining for another paint job. I was thinking of black... seems you already picked that colour.

Jur,

The "paint" is actually good old powder coating, the colour is onyx black...frame and crankset. It has a real neat green metallic fleck in it which catches the light at the right angle....sigh.
BB is still on bike, I've been too busy, (lazy), to change it yet, been riding my wife's R20 and my new Specialized roadie in an attempt to get fitter...just in case we meet up for a R20 ride, so you won't put me to too much shame ;), but I'll try to do the work soon.

Oh - the non-folding Twenty frame I recently picked up has holes in it for internal cabling to the rear which was a surprise. Anyone got any clues on how you put new cabling in without a bunch of small elves to go inside and poke it out for you?

That 'Wasp' is a beautiful looking twenty, SteveGregor. It's very pretty indeed.


Funny thing how Raleigh seemed to mostly sell non-folding twenties in the UK and exported lots of the 20 folders abroad and that the British folding versions seem to have ugly chrome mudguards and a crappy set of transfers saying 'stowaway' instead of 'twenty'. I've been combing ebay.co.uk for a really nice example in all green paint like the beauty that someone in the States posted here last week, but the only decent looking ones are non-folding for some reason. I'd want it as near original as possible, so colour and the transfers matter rather more to me.

I'm looking for one like this which Larryfeltonj was lucky enough to get his hands on ->

Something like the hard drawn copper wire used by radio hams for antennas would be good. You can get it in gauges of about three mm which are VERY stiff and should be perfect for manipulating through the frame.

My reasons are plain and simple, I was captivated by the original idea of Alex Moulton :- that a smaller wheel has many advantages over a large wheel ie: nifty handling, stronger, less rolling resistance, faster acceleration and the rest, which I'm sure you already know. The non folding version is a bit lighter and being a single tube is stronger and more responsive and ideal for loaded panniers B&F, which by the way handle better than a full size tourer and give plenty of heel clearance. As I'm not using the Wasp for international travels or train commutes I don't need it to fold, but I could always get some S&S couplings to convert it to break down into a suitcase.
I own and have owned top end full size roadies, so these non folders are for a bit of fun and, yes, to be different, I decided that I wanted the benefits of a small wheel bike without the need to fold AND the

That is a dashing Raleigh Twenty - nice looking bike. I wanted to add another trick for snaking wire or cable : when negotiating complex cavities and channels, try 'shaking' small beaded chain (the stuff sometimes used for light switch pull cords). This is a trick sometimes employed by riggers and electricians on boat handrails etc.

There's a guy selling an R20 in good nick in my own city on ebay. Problem is it's a horrible purple / pink colour. I don't think I could live with that. Pity - it looks like new.

No man in Newcastle could ride a pink bike. It would be more than one's life was worth - almost like riding a pink bike in Glasgow, where they deal with 'would be' terrorists by knocking them down with their fists.

Well, none of my three 20" bikes are pink, but I still get snide remarks, especially from a group of ferals I sometimes see, and being feisty and not overly tall, I can't help myself and yell something back....then start praying I don't get a puncture when it looks like they want to take it further.:D

They're really inspiring pictures. It's fantastic that you can make such a bike out of an old R20. Style, elegance, and functionality combined. I love it. I'd say that bike is worth money now - probably took a fair bit of cash to make it like that too.

Let's not go there about how much cash I spent to get it to this state, I just don't wanna know :eek::eek:, but I'm pleased with the end result....looks and performance, I just love the way a small wheeler can match the big guys. AND I must say a HUGE thanks to Sheldon, LittlePixel, Jur and everyone else for their fanatical inspiration and advice.


Coming soon.....my wife's R20, which might rival the WASP. ;)

You bet I'm a lucky boy on that catch. It made up for one of my eBay catastrophes. I bought an old Indian utility bike which was so encrusted with rust that any effective rust remover should make the damned thing dissolve into oblivion. Getting the Twenty may have been karma in action.

One other thing is that the bike I got was one of the matched set (I bid on both). I'd really like to know who got the second one, and if they really appreciated the jewel they acquired.

I saw another R20 folder yesterday chained to a fence in Edinburgh. It was a nice one, so I hung about a while to see if the owner returned. Thought I'd offer whoever it was a few notes to let it go, but in the end my wife got sick of waiting and dragged me away back to the car so we could drive home 120 miles behind tactors. I hate the way farmers take over the roads with slow trailers full of grain at this time of year.

R20s are quite rare in this part of the country. I'm not so sure why, but I've only spotted two in the last year since I got interested in them. I suppose they may all be mouldering away in garages underneath piles of junk and gardening tools.

So far I've found the Wasp for $15 from the recycle yard, then spent a lot of moola, and also my wife's R20 for $20 from a hippy antique-junk sale, I'm sure there are more out there...nearby...waiting to come into the gaze of my ever alert eyes, it seems Oz might be the place to be.
