Classic & Vintage - My New Miyata

Picked it up this morning. It is an 83 Miyata One Hundred. The previous owner purchased it new in 1986. The serial number denotes it as an 83 though, so who knows. Everything is is awesome working shape. He "had it tuned up about 2 years ago and hasnt ridden it since". It needs new grips...thats it. Paid $100. More than I would have liked to, but it is my size and rides great.

Drops will be going on soon and Im thinking of taking this riser bar, flipping it, and throwing it on the 77 Raleigh Grand Prix thats going to be a single speed in the near future.

Probably mostly commuting, some longer rides as well. I really got it so that I dont need to ride my freeride bike everywhere.

Once the Raleigh is done, this is going to get lightened up and turned into a bike I can take on longer rides.

Nothing wrong with paying a hundred bucks for that bike. Those bars look like the old school All-Rounders that came on many 3-speeds as an option to the North Roads. Are they Nitto? How do you like the shifters up on the stem? I always thought that was a great place for 'em. What does it say on the frame tube stickers?

How did you use the serial number to get a date on your bike. I just bought a Bianchi which I think is from mid 80s for a song, and am trying to figure out what I have. Is there a website to check serial numbers or did you go through the company?-

Hello Rod, it's one of the things we do best here--go through contortions to figure out dates! Seriously, if you have something with Suntour/Shimano parts, you can go to the Vintage Trek site and date the components. Or, for your Bianchi--look here:

The bars are stamped "SR" The PO had them on the bike since he didnt do much actual riding on it. Just around town. I swapped in some drops. Now I just need to get some brake levers so I can stop without taking my hands off the drops.


And I hate the stem shifters. haha, probably switching to DT Shifters asap.

I liked it the way it was.
