LBS in Maryland

Heya -- My friend is looking to start doing some cycling and is interested in purchasing a hybrid or lower-end mountain bike for recreational riding. She hasn't ridden in a while and will need someone to go over how to change a flat and basic maintenance. I know shops can be hit or miss and I am not familiar with any in this area. The shop she found closest to her house was the Laurel bicycle shop. I would appreciate any advice on LBS in this area, thanks!

We use the Bicycle Place in Silver Spring...they've been pretty good.

Proteus Bicycles Adventure Outfitters (http://www.proteusbicycles.com/) Jill the shop owner is real cool and I hear nothing but complements about the shop. They have classes at the shop or REI also has basic bike maintenance classes.
