Dogs on the race course, FTL.Dogs don't belong anywhere in the vicinity of bicycles, on a leash or off. Too often, the jackass on the other end of the leash is dumber than the dog.
i know the french love their dogs...taking them to a grand tour and letting them run around is just STOOPID.It happens at the giro too...i remember seeing this little dog emerge from behind a barrier on a wet sprint stage right at the finish...i'm sure it had something to do with the huge crash...this was like 3 or 4 years ago.
Don't you know??? They only leash them when the French guys go by. :D

Anyone know what happened to the dog? and agreed, STUPID to bring an animal (or child or anything that might wander off) to an open sporting event, especially cycling.

Good try but it took out Sandy Casar today...french rider on a french team riding a french bike.
and their damn dogs? ...
Interestingly, I saw much less pet roadkill in The Netherlands and France in six years than I ever saw here.

Never EVER make a mountain bike pilgrimage to Durango, Colorado. You'd go nuts!
Thousands of miles of public roads, millions of spectators. Accidents happen. On the flip side I don't think any contenders got taken down in the mountains by spectators this year, which happens a lot.

Maybe that's why he won the stage today. He felt bad about hitting the dog. :D

My understanding is that Michael Vick has offered to clear up the TDF dog problem. I'm not sure how he plans on doing that but it was nice of him to offer.
Wow. I saw the big hole in his shorts at the end of the stage but didn't realize how he got it. I'm even more impressed now.

Out of curiosity, how did you imagine he got it?

why do you make that a french thing...are you still blaming them for the idiot ?

I figured that RyanF dialed it up to 4000W and resulting flash burned a hole in Cassar's kit.

I think the dog turned out okay. After the accident you could see it running down the road in what seemed like okay shape. It was a scarry accident. It looked to me like the frenchman flew through the air about ten feet before hitting the ground.

I wonder if Sandy lost a tooth in the collision? When he went over the line at the end I thought I saw a gap in his teeth. Or maybe he just always looks like that.

Just think if they ever held a Tour De South Carolina... if you want dogs to enter the equation.

That was a remarkable example of ass-road rash. He's gotta be in some pain right now.

Pick one: bitten by Voigt, leaking powergel, "skin allergy" (© D. Millar), shaved his leg and missed...

That he won the stage. Especially how he attacked, got caught, and when they hesitated to finish him off, he just rode them off his wheel in the final few hundred meters.

Except for the license plate and the fact that the moto wasn't stolen, that could be NYC.

So what? Those are pictures of merdes de chiens , not dog crap.
True. That makes it even classier.

Bringing a dog without a leash to a bike race is like bringing a shark to a swimming carnival.

+1.
There are more accidents during the Tour involving spectators (human) than dogs.
Watch the crowd along major climbs, it's very scary. Wasn't it last year that a dummy run alongside a rider and got hit by a motorcycle? One of the most memorable Armstrong photo is when he went done after catching a handbag with his handlebars, Ullrich is looking at LA on the pavement with disbelief.
