Classic & Vintage - Need Help Identifying This Bike

recently bought this road bike. I would like to restore it, or better you fix it up, and maybe turn it into a fixed gear bike. Don't know where to start! Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated, as to what I can do with this bike, where to start...etc.

Yep, the one-piece crank, the chainwheel, the pie-plate spoke protector, the steel wheels, and the rear der ('GT 100'-Shimano?) look just like the ones on my ~1973 Varsity. But this frame has some lugged joints? Interesting... Could be an engineering or marketing trial run piece? 1973 was about the time the Le Tour appeared. The messy black primer job says 'stolen'.

I really wouldn't waste my time with this bike. It is an example of the lowest quality bikes of the era, and as duffer says, its probably stolen. Just oil the chain and ride it, but I wouldn't even replace a brake cable on this bike.

Must've been an unsuccessful experiment--looks like it was offered in 1973 only. Opaque Blue matches.

damn, you guys are good. Yea I assumed the black spray paint meant stolen and it is heavy as hell. So I take it this bike wouldn't do good as a fixed-gear bike? Was thinking if I took off the gearing and brake systems it would drop a good amount of the weight.

I think the frame is steel...

Do it! Strip the FD, RD, shifters, and crank off of it, slap a nice set of alloy wheels on it, (single speed, flip flop hub) and add an alloy single speed crank and your in! that thing will last you forever! :)

Heres a bike some told me not to bother with, its my wifes daily rider, single speed, flip flop hub, pink foam grips! ;) she freakin loves it! Thanks to all that told ME to go for it ;) :)

Yeah once you loose all the steel components and put alloy wheels, cranks, seatpost, stem and handlebars you should have a sup 25lb fixie. Then you can wait for a better frame to come your way and swap the parts over later.

right on! I am going to go for it. I'll try to post pictures with the progress, and I'm sure I'll be on here quite a bit asking for help with it.
