Anyone else got any personal milestones to share?
I am a 47 year old woman, way overweight, who is getting back into cycling after about 16 years
Went out yesterday for a ride, early before the heat. On weekends I try to go for distance and avoid climbing hills, which are almost inevitable around here because I live in the foothills outside of L.A. During the week I climb the hills as a sort of interval training.
I got to the second street where I could climb to the road where I live. I had never climbed it before because it's pretty steep (for me, especially!). I said to myself, what the hell, and decided to go; I told myself I would take my time, try to keep my cadence and control my breathing. I geared down and got going.
Shortly after, I got a little rambunctious, and just barely started to lose my breath. I slowed and started breathing in for 2 or so rpms and then out through pursed lips for 4 rpms. I climbed in the saddle; my knees don't like too far standing.
I got to the street that was my goal, without having to stop to rest and let my heartbeat drop. I felt good. I stopped, but mainly because of the "burnin' yearnin'" from my saddle. I was buzzed and happy. The legs weren't tired at all and I was breathing hard, but not panting or strained. I continued up the hill to my house street and continued on home in a very good mood.
Dang, I feel so accomplished that tomorrow (a bike hill-climbing day) I am going to try the mile-and-a half climb from a local main road (19th) to my house. I may be toddling, but I am going to see howfar I can get and not stop.
