Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So what does everyone recommend? I looked in to Fitday. Seems pretty good, but I have couple of issues with it. First you can't customize the work out. It over estimates calories burned on a bike so to get correct amount I have to fiddle with time ridden. Not a big deal, but annoying. Main issue thought is their serving size, It's very non-standard. Some have it in cups, others in oz. I would really prefer something that will have serving size in grams as an option. Does anything like that exist?

Yeah thats not really a problem. Converting cups to grams is. Besides I would prefer to see things in grams.

Well I also tried out Calorie-Count, it allows custom activity, has much much wider selection of foods and stuff is in grams for the most part. Bad part is custom food addition is not as nice as in FitDay. In light of that I think I would go with FitDay. Since my diet is not all that varied I think I can build up a "database" of custom foods rather quickly and in the end that will speed up entry of values.
All of this is very enlightening. I was very surprised at how quantities of food I consume. Assuming 2k base metabolism, and 1Kj of work done on the bike = 1C burned I am -600-1k. Daily. Maybe with the help of this I can finally loose that remaining weight. :)

Are you looking at the free version or the paid version of FitDay?
I was using the free version of FitDay for a while, it was OK but I wanted more flexibility so I took a chance and just today I purchased the paid version. Seems like night & day between the 2 versions. Paid version seems pretty customizable, although I'm still in the process of setting it up for my foods and specific workouts. I can even input the mg's of vitamins I take daily, even lets me create custom foods. So far it seems pretty comprehensive.

The paid version of Fitday allows you to create custom activities -- you can put in whatever you want for calories burned per minute/hour...

Ah I see what they are doing. I think I'll stick with free for now. I can get the amount of Calories burned by adjusting ride times. Thanks for suggestion.
So what does everyone recommend? I have "Diet Organizer Mobile" on my Palm. The advantage of having it on a PDA is that it is always ready, so I enter my food BEFORE the meal and I can see how much I should/shouldn't have. That way I am more proactive and plan the meal before I sit down at the table.

I use Diet and Exercise Assistant for my palm, and use the Desktop Companion for it. It rocks, has a great/customizable database for foods. www.keyoe.com
PS. I rarely use my Palm T|X these days, so I almost exclusively use the desktop companion for the software. You don't need the palm software to make it work.

I use the paid version of FitDay that runs on Windows. I track grams of protein, carbs, fats, and fiber on a daily basis. You can create both custom foods and custom exercises.
I also keep track of my activities throughout the day in an Excel spreadsheet. I put in some formulas to sum up the total # of minutes per activity. It make it easier to transfer to FitDay.
i used the free version of fitday.com and dropped 70 lbs in 2006. for me calorie counting was the key. i basically had over 100 custome items entered into fitday in order to obtain a somewhat accurate count. i found it did over estimate some activities and under estimate others. if you think about its just that an estimate, it doesnt have to be correct done to the calorie for one to use the information to loss weight. plus, dont forget to enter your sleep as an activity as it affects (lowers) what you burn just being you. later.

Sleep wow didn't even think of that. Like a night sleep, or naps during a day?
^^^^ yes an yes. all sleep should be entered as an activity as it decreases your BMR (calories you burn just being alive). plus, i found when using fitday, it was best to choose the "sedentary" job or lifestyle to best estimate your BMR. the other options seemed to lead to a really high BMR.
most people will over estimate their burn and under estimate their intake. i tried to error in the other direction. if i did this and maintained a daily calorie deficiency, no matter how small, i would loss wieght. i didnt get caught up in how accurate, or not, the numbers where. get them close and you can be successfull.
later.

Not sure but I think I am the opposite. It calculated I burned 3.7k calories, and consumed around 3k, but I lost .9lb since yesterday morning. I was drinking tons of water in the last few days so I don't think I am dehydrated.
On a side note I was putting in miles ridden and total end up to be 265 miles in the last 7 days. Wow.
