Northern California - Any rides or routes in Fairfield/Vacaville this Sunday?

I'll be at my in-laws this weekend and I am hauling my bike with me. My in-laws live off of Peabody near Air Base Parkway in Fairfield. I'm not too familiar with the area in terms of good roads to ride. Does anyone have a 20-30 mile route they can share with me? Or anyone up that way want to possibly let me tag along with you that morning? As long as it's not a hammer-fest! :o

Maybe you can take Hwy 12 to the river road and ride out to Isleton and back. I did a ride from Martinez that went over the Antioch Bridge and through The Delta to Old Town a few weeks ago. We had lunch and took the train back. 85 miles of riding and lots of fun.

Or maybe take seconday roads to Davis and back. The wind will be very enjoyable. :D

We usually do the 8 am ride on Saturday, but we'll be on the peninsula enjoying tandemania with Hermes and Velodiva. We'll be at the clocktower in downtown VV Sunday, though, if you're still around & want to ride.

Note: The Saturday ride has two groups -- nice ride, just be sure to opt for the slower group. You'll be glad you did!

You can ride with the Benicia Bike Club this Sunday, if you like. We start at the Benicia State Park, into Vallejo, across the Zampa Bridge into Crockett, up Cummings Skyway into Martinez. Stop for coffee at Starbucks then take the scenic route that hugs the coast back to Crockett, Vallejo across the Bridge and into Benicia. It's about 36 miles and 3000' of total climbing. Pretty fun.

Let me know if you want to go. I've only been on this ride once with the club but I plan to do it again this Sunday.

cantdrv55 - Maybe next time I come up I'll roll with you guys. Is the pace pretty moderate or do they hammer up the hills? I'm not so hot on hills just yet! :o

Hey Spin! Yeah it's great, I love this forum! Everyone I've met here and the few I've met in person have been really helpful and cool! :)

BTW, I did the ride today, 29 miles in just over 2 hours. But man, I need to go do the hills on the backside instead. Climbing them from the way I went was tough! The grades seemed close to, if not more than 10%! (Or maybe I just suck at climbing still! That's probably closer to the truth! hehe!) My HR was getting pretty high so I opted to walk up most of the way on that end. Probably about a 1/2 mile after going up the first 1/4 mile! UGH!!! I figured if I stopped and rested my legs would get tight so I walked up. But when I felt rested enough I jumped back on and made it to the top to take a nice ride down. But even then I slowed it up because there was loose gravel so I got nervous. hehe!

I'll have to bring the camera next time to take pics of the nice scenery, smashed snake, horses feeding and the cows and goat mocking me!

Overall... it was a cool ride, so thanks again to Brandy for the link. Maybe next time I'll do the whole regular route when I get more up to speed on my riding!

Cantelow's a little easier going the other direction. Just one or two really steep spots. I've had to stop for wild turkeys before on Cantelow, but fortunately I was going up...

After you've conquered Cantelow, time to consider Mix Canyon.

That sounds like a nice ride! In a couple years you can make it a loop across the Benicia Bridge. But then you would lose the scenic ride back to Crockett.

I love Cantelow -- it's right out my back door. First thing in the morning, over the top, drop onto Pleasant's valley Rd., then a quick Winters loop...life is good.

From my bro-in-laws house it's about 15 miles. From my house in Daly City it's about 60 miles from hwy's 280 to 101 to 80! Doh! :p
