Why be angry at the reporters? You, the reader, can decide what any story was worth. A Danish news source said it had heard from an "unnamed" source that a rider had failed a test. One English language news source than reported that the Danish new source had made that claim. The English language source did NOT say the story was true, they simply reported that someone was spreading that story.
Each reader has a responsibility to decide how much weight to give such a story. Clearly, from the beginning, it was no more than a rumor. Then, good reporters went to work, checked out the rumor, and reported that, at this time, there is no evidence it is true.
So, reporters did their work...and readers need to do their work.
The Landis case is a good example. Many "readers" assumed Landis was guilty the moment the story hit the French newspapers. Yet, at that time, Landis had never been provided the detailed test results for the "A" sample test. So, Landis is "convicted" by the readers of failing a test, yet the official results had not even been distributed.
We live in a world of very poor readers...the problem is not the reporters.

Well, I don't think most reporters are bumbling dolts, but as far as your take on it, the newspaper published an unfounded allegation of doping which is very harmul to that riders reputation and puts him under a lot of stress to defend himself.
Newspapers have a responsibility to get confirmation before they run a story like that. Most news organizations have specific procedures and stated terms of what is acceptable confirmation, and from how many sources, the relaibility of that source, the probablity that that source has access to that kind of info, etc. This newspaper jumped the gun and its embarrasing to the rest of the news media.

If this is true???
Folks! Listen up!
Tyler doped. Floyd doped. Basso doped. Ullrich doped. Yes, Lance doped.
Vino dopes. Ras dopes. They all dope. You can't be playing at that level without doping.
Soler dopes. Levi dopes. Cadel dopes.
The only issue is whether they can catch them or not.
If they managed to do he doping correctly they can continue to test "negative" and keep their stuff hidden. Or, they might make a mistake.
But, it's true.
You forgot to include yourself.
