I'm still kinda new here. I'm interested to know how can I do a search for south bay ride club(s)? (Location: Torrance, RPV, or Redondo Beach)
I'm looking for a wkend possible on Sun. ( I have to work every other Sat.) ride that I can join. Hopefully keep me motivate and learn from the best.
Thank you for any suggestion you guys can provide. (i.e. Tel#, or location to meet, etc)
Gary
Ps- I'm not hard core rider...so I'm not ready for those 50mi+ rides...need to start slowly.:o
If you don't find something local look up bicycle club of irvine. See their website at bikeirvine.org. Social friendly group. You can take a look at the rides for each weekend. Distance is reasonable. Everyone is welcome, membership not required and riding around the area is heaven!!!

The South Bay Wheelmen have a list of popular South Bay rides, (http://www.southbaywheelmen.org/RidesAndRacing.html) but the majority of them are pretty fast. I've heard that there are some more comfortable rides organized by Helen's, but I've never been on one. You might also want to check with the
Peninsula Cycle Club. (http://www.peninsulacc.org/rides.htm) I know they used to do beginner road rides, but I'm not sure what that status is. They're sponsored by Bike Palace in San Pedro and I know they do a lot of rides on the Hill.
I know its not easy to find a club in the South Bay friendly to newbies. Occasionally one of my fast friends will go "slumming" and do their recovery ride the same time I do my hard training ride. But I do most of my rides alone, or with BFers. On my mid-week morning rides, I tend to see the same locals over and over again so often end up riding with a familiar face.
Good luck. Now get on your bike and have a fun ride!

All all. I will ck out all the opportunities. I have been riding alone but it just not the same. At the same time, I know I'm not ready to hang around w/ the big boys...and also dont want others to "baby"me along the way.
I will keep trying.
Thanks again.
cheers.

Join SBW. Yes we have fast rides but we also have slower rides and a lot of guys do informal rides/ get togethers that have a no drop, must-chat policy. In fact, these are most of the rides it seems. And yes, even some of the racers do these rides and will not drop the hammer for the sake of showing off. They're the biggest chatters and often the best at going slow.
