Arg, putting together a bike is one headache after another! I am trying to replace a 7 speed cassette with a 9 speed cassette, and now the 9 speed cassette doesn't fit on the freehub!!! What do i do?!?!?!??!?!!

7 speed to 9 speed? on the same hub?
The spacers for the cogs would need to be narrower,
and I don't know if a 7speed hub can take a 9 speed
cassette?
any of the real wrenches know ?

No, you can not put a 9-speed cassette on a 7-speed hub. Sorry.
You can, however, put 8 cogs of the 9-speed hub on. That's the best you can do.

You could go through the hassle of replacing the freehub body, but then you would mess around with spacing, blah, blah, and blah. :rolleyes:

However, how are you going to shift gears on a 9-speed cassette with a 7-speed shifter? Do you have 9-speed compatible ders, or a 9-speed chain? Crankset?
It might be worth your efforts to buy a 9-speed bicycle...

I already have everythign else for a 9 speed bike, Shimano XT rear der, LX crank, LX cassette, XT chain, LX shifter set. Because the hubs aren't labeled "9 speed hub", "8 speed hub", i just assumed my old one would work.

Your best shot is to use 8 of the 9-speed cogs, with the 9-speed spacers, the 9-speed chain, and the 9-speed shifter. (You can use either the 8-speed or the 9-speed rear derailleur.) I believe Sheldon Brown mentions this option in one of his websites.
