Any comments here will be appreciated.
I would like to ride my Allez over to Fashion Place Mall in the morning and get my eyes checked.
Is it safe to lock a bike up over there?

Well thank you all for all the input,,,,,,,,,,

I called Fashion Place Mall security, they told me they will drive past it every 15 min.
I went over there, took almost 3 hours to get my glasses ordered, each time I checked they were driving past it.
My hats off to Fashion Place Mall security.

Let me know when you are going to park your nice bike there, so I'll know my junker is safe while the thieves work on yours. :)

Last time I did it was when I picked up my glasses, I came out and there was a crowd around my bike, I was worried, I got there and it was just a bunch folk all traveling together stopped as they wanted to look, they complimented on the bike is all.

I will not leave mine alone at Valley Fair Mall.
I would not at Sears downtown.
In fact the only reason I did here was because Fashion Place Security kept close eye on it.

Ha.

Scary title, but nice message. One sees "BIKE THEFT IN UTAH" and automatically gets a sick feeling.

I'm scared to even prop up my Raleigh by the door of a 7-11 to get a Slurpee. You have guts to even think about leaving an Allez out there. I tip my hat, and I'm glad security was looking out for you and your bike.

I want to get a beater bike. Like some old thriftstore thing or something I can use for errands and stuff, and lock up, and not worry about. My coffee shop bike. Searching but not scoring.

If you haven't already, check Craigslist, Aloyuzius. There's a fair bit of stuff along those lines in there.

Cheers.

Yes. There sure is. And there was some great stuff on there this weekend.

But another guy on this very board saw this post, and pm'd me and I am now the happy owner of a very heavy, but fun 78 Schwinn!! It's in really good shape, too. Gets me to the coffee shop and the library just fine, and I have the peace of mind that I can stay all day, with just a feeble cable lock outside.

But Thank YOU!
And thank you, Roger.

If you guys need beaters, let me know. I have some free stuff and some cheap stuff to get rid of.

I've had a bike and a front wheel stolen from the TRAX station in Sandy. One was a cool Peugeot mixte that I bought for my wife. I brought it on the train with the bike I was riding after I purchased it. I locked it up at the station intending to pick it up later that night but didn't make it back till the next day. Needless to say, the bike never made it home.

Never, EVER leave your bike unlocked outside the main downtown library even if you're just running in for a second and even if you can see it the whole time. There are a few guys who watch the place and ride away on unattended bikes. Locked up it should be safe all day.

Let's get together and set up a trap for those guys at the library. It will be fun and dangerous.

I'm up for it on a Saturday. I think it would be fun and easy. And fun. What do you think, do we get one punch each before calling the cops?

One of the library thieves is already in jail. He stole a bike and hopped on a bus. The owner saw him put the bike on the bus rack and get aboard. He called the cops, and they stopped the bus and arrested the a-hole. Guy got his bike back. Of course, the perp is probably back on the street cruising for more bikes by now.
There has been a bike upside down, with the front wheel off and leaning against a tree, with the tire removed, in the park at 22th south and the JPT, for the last three days. Anybody know anything about it? Looks like someone went to get a tire and never came back. Should I notify the police?

Another source for beater bikes might be ksl.com

Hey there mate, i think that one punch each is a little lenient don't you? i was thinking a more along the lines of public humiliation. . . maybe a punch each and then some tar and feathers eh?

A suspect wearing a helmet, saying "MORON" has been apprehended. I can hear it now.

What type of feathers? Well. . .i have this image of a mixture of chicken, peacock and turkey feathers. "Why those three types specifically?" you may ask me. . . well, that's for me to know and for you to figure out ;)
