I've just bought a trailer for my wee doggie :D

He's a German Spitz - not sure of his weight - think 'small medium' or 'large small'. Well behaved but he IS a spitz so obedience has a different definition to something like Border Collie. He loves being with me and going on trips in the car and hates my bikes because he gets left home.

Well, not any more. Tonight, in a fit of stupidity and fiscal irresponsibility, I purchased a kiddie trailer. I really wanted a dog trailer but this was half the price and already expensive. It's new, one of the Chinese imports we see here in Australia - a Symsky

As a kid's trailer, it's a two seater. Steel frame.

What modifications should I consider making to it?

I'll leave the seats out. It looks like it has a footwell which should serve as a small boot (or 'trunk' as the Americans call it). At this point I'm thinking of making a flat floor covered with something to keep the road heat out in summer - any thoughts on how to do this and what to use?

Any other suggestions (it's a bit late for 'don't')

Said dog, Skipper, in another one of his passions :D

A nice dog bed or crate mat would make your dog happy and comfy. If your dog is picky, add an old comforter on top. Don't forget the spill-proof water bowl...like this (it's a 3 piece design with the inner part shaped like a funnel...can turn it upside down w/o spilling. There are smaller ones available but just have either a snap on top piece or molded with a lip):

and maybe a small bowl for some snacks/biscuits.

If it is really warm, you could always tuck in some ice packs (we call them blue ice) to cool your buddy off. I use kitchen mats with a grippy bottom for my dogs when they sit in the car with me. They have dog seat belts so they will stay in place in case of quick stops.

Don't know if they sell such things in Australia, but my dogs love them (must think they look cool).

my fil did this exact same thing w/ a trailer he found at a thrift store and "lucy" loves it! He took the cover off and added sides to the frame so it kind of works like an open doggie wagon too!
