Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Someone Pronounce 'Tange'

Is is 'tanj" like tangent w/o the 'ent' or 'ton-gay' (yes I get the jokes) or even 'tan-gay'. Just curious, and for all those about to flame, don't tell me you've never wondered.

all wrong... it's tahn'-geh. not gay.

americans pronounce other foreign lanquages with that "ay" sound and it's all wrong... like the spanish for "why", porque? you say porkay. it is por-keh!

Yeah, its not the long, over pronounced, long a sound but its the easiest way to tell someone. When my Japanese teacher tried to teach it most people came closer to saying it correctly using -gay than -geh.

I cringe when I hear people say “campy-nag-lo” instead of “cam-pan-yolo”. Then again, i always thought it was tange like "tangelo".

I say toe-may-to, you say toe-mah-to.

And STILL no one's got it right.

EDIT - sorry, I missed exfreewheeler's post.

If the 'geh' is as in "get" but with no "t" it's right.

if it is japanese then it is DEFINITELY

TAH - N (half N half M sound) - GEH

Unless it is japanese but named after a foreign language, because sometimes japanese companies romanize words too cleverly, and trick your gaijin ass. Example GUNDAM (anime)....if you say it as japanese, it's goo-n-dah-m, but they are getting clever on your stanky white ass, so it reads like english as guh-n-dah-m.

Just realised I am talking to myself, back on topic.
