HeY - gosh I missed this forum (that was so sweet my teeth ache). Been gone for a month, Just got home Web access 2 days ago. no TV yet either. 1st google= TDF, What H*** is going on with that (TDF) ????????

No Bikes as yet, ETI = ship arrives aug 8 manilla, customs = 1-4 weeks, then a week to get here.

Haven't been on a bike for 5 weeks now and I think I'm going blind, (wait- that's for a different reason right?) So, if anyone would have any good tips for 'off-bike' conditioning to retain what I loss, it would be appreciated. I've been walking/running, but its tearing up my achilles heel. Also doing crunches, normal workout, etc. Week days are LONG - 10-13 hrs. I commute (auto) 6km, it takes about 30 minutes in travel time.

I've already scounted a few bike routes, mainly mountains, and a few local routes (driver will follow). In fact I'm headed back to US on business mid aug, (10 days). Should be able to start bike program again then.

1 AMAZING fact most folks would enjoy - dogs DON'T chase bikes here - Why? just lots of traffic I guess. Useless endeavor.

Again, just saying HI! and I enjoy reading the updates.

Welcome back, RB. If you can't ride, you can read up on it and listen: check out the http://www.thefredcast.com/ and others. Download all back issues and daydream your legs are turning...a kind of "imaging" experience.

More to the point...how's the food and the road surfaces & traffic & seen any other riders types?

Hi RB, good to hear from you.

Is there anything you can do with weights to stay busy. Anything that keeps your muscle tone will help later when the bikes arrive.

Hello,

Kumasta ka?

I will be in Cebu next winter for 2months. From my previous visits I can't imagine biking there unless in rural areas.

Bad traffic ba? There seems to be no law on the streets there. It's who's the biggest, fastest and most aggressive. I have seen tricycle drivers run off the road in Mactan.

Be careful out there, it's literally a jungle.

Thanks all - I see mostly urban Bikes. Very few road bikes. Weekends the traffic is not so bad.
We went up the east coast in a SUV yesterday, and got into a rural area. Had a GREAT route picked out, Hilly but perhaps 6% grades, large sugar Plantations, beautiful valleys, palm trees, banana tres, absolutely beautiful. Road actually good. Little traffic. (NW of SOGOD). I thought I'd found Bike Heaven. I spoke to a few Cebu engineers today telling them about this 'nice' route I found. I immediately saw from the look on thier faces something was wrong. "What?" i asked, - Turns out its one of the few hotbeds of Communist rebels and more dangerous were the 'robber gangs'. I told them my driver is armed, they informed me that the rebels carry M-16's , and the robbers were armed with cheap pistols and Bolo knives. Soooo- I am relooking. I'm hearing southern part is mostly rebel free - and stay on coastal roads. But I fear breathing all those fumes.

But that's part of it, I'll find a place. I still am walking, and exercising- I'll make it work.

Take care - all of you.

Dogs running loose will be captured by those who like to eat them. Consequently you will not find dogs running loose. I was in the Philippines in the mid 1980's while serving in the U.S. Navy. I had planed on retiring there but due to health problems I had to take disability preventing me from living outside the USA.

Good to hear from you. Are you expecting your road bike next month? Perhaps it would be a good idea to just ride a mountain bike considering the roads are not all paved out there. Anyway, have a great time during your stay.

My understanding is that the two are very similar. Thanks for the update.
