Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm in shock. I watched stage 19 of the Tour de Fruitcake today the final Time Trial, and I'm hooked. I can't wait for the final stage. I can name the top ten riders. I want a road bike.
Where's my razor, dammit?

Heh. You're excited because now you're startin' to see the no-names who love cycling, and are willing to win or lose based on their own non-enhanced performances. :)
I'm tapin' coverage from CBS tomorrow. I hope I'm gettin' in a ride while it's on, and then I'll watch the coverage when I get home from my afternoon appt.
Congrats, Crank. You will never regret road-ridin'. It's a very therapeutic and calmin' thing. Unless you're racin' or in a TT. :p
Congrats on gettin' the cast off, too!
I`m just now startin` to get into TDF cause the dopers are getting weeded out. VV your avitar is really freaking me out please change it to something less freaky:p.

Talking about buying a road bike is the first conversation amongst 3 conversations that leads you to being OCP..
One year from now you are going to be like Damn Ti and Carbon Fibre are really cool and then you are going to end up fussing over how heavy you carbon fiber water cages are..
Edit.. I was kidding.. ;)..
What Levi Leipheimer did today was superhuman. Hats off to Cadel Evans for being able to respond in the last 5 k. Many would have wilted under the pressure. None of the top three did and tomorrow is going to be a fun stage to watch, esp. the last few laps on the Champs Elysees.
Steel is real and unless you are racing, you don't need all the high dollar, high bling stuff. Steel or aluminum will serve you fine.

I wish it was that easy. This bottle ain`t big enuff. Thats one freaky thingy:eek:

I know where I'll be tomorrow am! Cup of coffee next to the monitor, race on thru computer and me fighting with the ultimate bad computer chair that ohhh, so ever slowly lets you wilt down to chin level to the keyboard.
But I'll be watching. Why not. It's a bike race - and I enjoy bike races. And Strawberry Eggo waffles with my coffee :)

God damn those are good.. made me all hungry now..

Being a single person, and responsible, I watch different people's houses when they vaca. This is one of my long time friends - and I've stuck in the past (like in a bad snowstorm where even I didn't want to venture out - no matter how much I like to winter ride) - and I raided her freezer. And felt bad - so I replaced everything.
hehe, happened to mention it and she was taken aback because I could have access to everything - absolutely no problem. Still, since I'm being paid for this - I just really try not eat her foods.
So what does she do this time --- she leaves this big note - "Basement freezer is stuffed full of assorted flavors of waffles for you - now eat and enjoy". I luv my friend - she stuffed the freezer full of at least 15 boxes of assorted eggo waffles for me. Hmmmmm 190 cal/2 waffles .... :D But still. I'm sitting on a moonshine pile-o-waffles for a couple of weeks and I'm luvin it.

Best bike for n00bs.

Not saying it aint fun to own, just saying that you don't have to have it. Been ridin road since 1984. First CF bita I ever got came on my 2005 Trek 1200. CF fork and seat post. I just cannot justify owning a weight weenie bike when the engine is carrying so many extra pounds! And I am not criticizing those who have a desire to own the very best. More power to them. Just saying that for basic road riding, it is not needed.

I'm trying to figure out a CF tissue. I'm totally intrigued.

You who has lost weight. You think I didn't notice on your last pic in the guy's thread?
Crankshaft, you need to stay away from the light!!

I just went through this. I caught myself, though. I was about to drop too many bones on a light light carbon fiber bike, when I realized that I didn't mind the weight of my cross bike, I just wanted something with tighter geometry. So, I bought the custom Keith Anderson steel frame and stuck all my Ultegra/Dura-Ace parts on there. Don't get me wrong, it's high end Columbus tubing, so it's still decently light. Next up is to swap the steel fork for a Reynolds Ouzo Pro, Chorus headset, and another stem.
Steel is real, but steel forks are HEAVY.

since when is a $3000 titanium moots road bike a UMB? If you want a REAL UMB, I have a really nice light Fuji Cross Pro frame I'll sell you with brakes, CF fork, levers, handlebars, headset, and seatpost collar.

Got a pic of the bike? What size?
I don't know how much a moots costs. I know a damn ALUMINUM DeRosa is about $3000. Friggin DeRosa. Oh, and the DeRosa rep came to the shop the other day and I have a funny story about that.

Think that but only the frame, fork, bars, and brakes.

You don't have to have a carbon fiber frame to be a weight weenie. My LBS has a steel framed track bike that weighs sub 14 pounds.

Hmmm. Horizontal top tube.......backy no likey. Thanks anyway. :)
horizontal toptube is the bee's knees. Sloping top tubes shouldn't affect your back, rather effective toptube length as well as headtube length.

My bike has a longer head tube and a sloping top tube to make for standover while giving a higher up position for my messed up back. Plus lotsa spacers help as well. Quit laughing at it. I know you're laughing at it.

I should take a picture of the Custom CF Sano frame we have in the back of the shop. It was made for a guy and the headtube I kid you not is about a foot long. and comes above the top tube by a good 6 inches.
Now, how much did that cost? I have no idea about the price of Moots. I just know they're good bikes.

I need a shorter stem. I'm stretched out too much and getting lower back pain. I just built this bike and haven't thrown the threadless headset and fork on there yet. So, I have to live with it until I get this stuff in.
