Fifty Plus (50+) - 50+ers in the Metro St. Louis area

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK, saw several posts from folks riding the eastern end of the Katy Trail- St. Charles area.
Who all do we have in the 50+ forume from the metro St. Louis area?
Me? I'm in the Alton area, north. Ride over to St. Charles a lot, and along the river front trail to downtown/arch a lot. Ride the Rivers Century in teh fall is one of my favs.
Who else, and where do you ride?
And we need to have a meetin at Trailhead or Schlafly's sometime :-)

I live 2 miles from the Katy up Jungs Station Rd. so I ride it or cross the river into Creve Coeur Park quite a bit. Other favorite rides are Mueller Soccer Park through the flood plain between the rivers and Lake St Louis to St Paul.
I'd be up for a ride with some other 50+ers. I ride pretty slow (12 to 15 MPH) so keep that in mind if you're envisioning a group ride. Also, I need to plan ahead if it's on a week end.

I live in Overland near the Innerbelt but I take my bike out to Creve Coeur Lake and ride from the Boat House to the Katy trail. About once a week I go over to Alton and ride the trail up to Grafton or Pere Marquette and back. I prefer to ride on the trails because I am not confident enough to ride with lots of traffic.
I'd be up for a meeting/ride with 50+ers but I am only fast when I have to outrun a thunderstorm. Usually, I am in the 12 to 15 mph range.
If it is a weekend ride I also need some advance notice to make plans.
I'm fairly new to the area. I live north of Marquette St. Park. Been here two years and just learning the trails. Been on the Katy once. I like the river trail. I ride from Marquette to Alton often. About 12-15 mph average for me too.
I'm probably what you would call a Fred.

I do bike patrol at work (Washington University) and aside from that I do most of my riding around the perimeter road of Jefferson Barracks park in South County.
I'm just back on my roadster lately after fighting with increasingly-arthritic knees. (cortisone injections....fun)
Live in Hazelwood. Ride at Creve Coeur park a lot, out by Smartt Field alot, some the Riverfront from Chain of Rocks south, some the river trail north out of Alton, some the Alton levees. Been considering Alton to Pere Marquette and back. More likely to have my wife drop me at PM and leave the van for me at the Piasa bird. LOL. 12-15 is good conversation speed.

I own a house in Wildwood just a few miles north of Eureka. Anybody want to buy a very nice house on 1.25 acres backing up to a "nature" area, private lot in a nice development?
I REALLY like the riding in Wildwood, Chesterfield area. Used to drive up to Katy Trail area when a flat family ride was what we needed. Currently relocating to Seattle area, did I mention a good deal on a nice house?

What's your address? I'll ride out there next weekend and make sure the big screen and the Porsche are still safe & sound. :D
JayhawKen...that's a dangerous handle to have in MO. Don't you know the most popular bumper sticker in the state is "I brake for all animals, except Jayhawks?" :D
I live in Chesterfield and ride with the West County YMCA team. We do Saturday morning rides in the St. Albans, Wildwood, Six Flags areas. I also ride Creve Coeur Park with my wife and do the Fun Club rides on Sundays.

That would be great. I'll be up in Door County, WI, for a camping/biking/golfing trip this coming week and next. Back on the 18th.

We're leaving for Wisconsin this weekend too, but we're riding the north woods. Back on the 12th.

OK reviving this thread for 2008, due to failure last year on my part, and the interest in the 'River's Down" thread this year.
How about Sat, August 16th, with either the 17th or 23rd as a weather alternate (don't know how many folks can/will ride on a Sunday Morning?

I think that I can make any of those dates work. If Mrs Grouch wants to come along, we'll do it on the tandem. I've got some other 50+ cycling friends who might want to come along too.
I really think this will go better if you start a brand new thread for 2008. Wildwood, for example, has moved to the Pacific Northwest so I doubt he'll be participating.

South County for me, but I'll be in Detroit for the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise the weekend of the 16th.
Keep me in mind for other times.

Not only did I move, but the house sold as well. Hooray for us!
Had to drop the price and offend the old neighbors, but wtf.
Missed the floods too.
The roads in west StL county were wonderful riding.

If Madison County, Illinois isn't too far for you, try the MCT trail system, http://www.mcttrails.org/ .
Very well maintained, mostly flattish. You can get nice folded maps at parking lots and trail intersections. Over 80 miles of trails to choose from.
