Hi,
After a long (10+ year) break from cycling I've been back at it this year and now that I'm reasonably fit again it's time to replace/upgrade my 13-year-old Cannondale.
I *think* I've narrowed my choice down to either a Titanium custom frame from Davidson at Elliott Bay Cycles or a Rodriguez from R&E Cycles. Just chatting them up in the stores I've felt comfortable in both places, and decided it's worth getting something in this price range as in the past I"ve always ended up replacing so much on 'stock' bikes I would have been better off starting ground-up, as both of these shops allow you to do. (FYI, I am over 50, not interested in racing, but I want something light and responsive but with a bit more "relaxed" geometry than I rode in my younger years. My riding goal is centuries, club rides, etc. ).
I know that in this price range there are lots of great bikes out there, but all things being equal I'd like to support local framebuilders who have done a lot to support local cycling over the years.
Unfortunately I'm not finding many reviews or even online chatter about these two builders -- I've searched the forums here, Cascade Cycle Club and roadbikereview and seen very little. I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death in the past, but as a newbie to Northwest cycling, my question is:
- any advice?
- any sources of independent information/reviews on these two builders I might have missed?
Thanks, all biases and prejudices welcome --
BB
