Utility Cycling - Interest in a group buy of utility bicycling products

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There is a sincere lack of utility bicycling products in the United States and I'm on a bit of a mission to change that.
I have the opportunity to import several products from a German company called Hebie. I'm most interested in their Chainglider product; slickest chainguard design I've ever seen, here's a picture:

I'd also be interested in getting some of the cheaper chainguards as well and also bipod stands
Their catalog is here so you can take a look http://www.hebie.de/pdf/hebie_web_katalog_en.pdf

I stand to make no profit on these, just looking to get the products to the US (and get some for myself of course)

Is anyone interested in a group buy?
Minimum I need is 30 Chaingliders ordered and can offer them at $35 USD + shipping
Chaingliders come in either 38 tooth or 44 tooth (front chainring) variety so please specify which you'd be interested in

Once I have 30 people who are interested we can get this rolling
Who's in?

Don't forget to add in the cost of taxes, duties, and most likely a customs broker.

Do realize that the 'Chainglider' is only for use with internal hubs, with a separate model for Rolhoff hubs?

If you said that about 3 days ago I would have started sweating BUT I was briefed on all this and have crunched the numbers. Its tough because the Euro to USD conversion is terrible, shipping is terrible, duty is terrible, etc etc. But I can still manage $35+S&H....barely. The shipping company agreed to act as a a customs broker

It comes in 38, 42 (for Rohloff) and 44 tooth. The system obviously will only work with a single cog like in an internally geared hub system but I don't see why it wouldn't work for a singlespeed as well
I plan to use mine with a Shimano Alfine 8 speed

If you are able to import the 42 tooth chainglider , I'll be buy 3-4 of them and forever be in your debt.

The Urbane Cyclist (http://www.ucycle.com/) in Toronto carries them. They'll ship to the US. I got one a few months ago through them.

I'll buy a 42 if it would fit on my single-speed converted 80s univega.

I'm definitely interested. What rear sprocket fittings can you get and can you mix and match sprocket fittings?

The 38T and 44T versions support 18-22T sprockets officialy (I'd like to personally test to see whether other tooth sizes would fit)
The 42T, which was made for Rohloff, supports 15-17T

(referring to urbane's hebie pricing) Yeah, at double the price.

Urbane also offers wholesale pricing to bike-shops/retailers, although I have no idea what kind of discount is involved.

My chainglider for Nexus 38t-18t from Urbane was $65CAN ($1CAN ~ $0.95USD right now). With shipping it was almost $90USD and took about two weeks to arrive.

What the heck. For $35 I'll take one and see what other tooth sizes will fit along with (subjectively) testing the efficiency with different chain widths.

Count me in for a 38T chainglider!

P.S. You should ask Urbane if they can give you a wholesale deal. Could be even cheaper.
