View Full Version : Levi WILL attack on last stage

I've seen all the quotes that say "they're not going to do a Vino" referring to Vino's attack on Levi on the last day to climb a place in GC. Well we know now that Vino was "special" and morals/ethics/honesty wasn't his strong point ... but come on ... these guys only think about one thing ... WINNING!

When they asked a collection of elite athletes if they would take a legal substance that guaranteed them an Olympic/World Championship gold medal within 5 years, but death in 10 ... 85% of them said they'd take it. THIS is their mentality ... it's win at ALL costs.

Levi will totally challenge for the time bonuses. He's got the whole Discovery team there to lead him out ... and Discovery can then brag about going 1-2 without Lance.

Uh, Disco has the yellow jersey. First is to protect that. Second might be to try to get Levi over Evans, but I doubt it.

BTW...Lotto is primarily a classics team and is more than capable of supporting a rider in this relatively flat stage.

According to my race book, there are two sprint bonuses. Ironically, one is Chatenay-Malabry.

Your assuming a fair bit. LL is an absolute rubbish sprinter. Vino totally killed the whole Gerolsteiner team on his own when they lead out LL two years back. Predictor have Hoste, Horner, Van Summeren, Aerts and Vansevenant still in the race - these riders aren't bums in a sprint lead out. Dragging Evans around to the time bonuses would risk the yellow jersey. Not going to happen.

Evans has better tools for the game than LL does.

But if anyone attacks this year, it will seal the coffin on the TdF. The last bit of TdF civility will be gone.

Is this y'all's first year of watching a Grand Tour?

No, it's my 22nd, but it's the first time I'm watching one where the podium can be decided by time bonuses on the final day. I do remember Hampsten, Winnen, and the Tour of Switzerland. What's your point?

 I have you beat by one, it's my 23rd. So there...what else do u want for a pissing contest? :p

EDIT: oh, and the point was (at risk of me eating my post after the stage) Levi will not attack...and despite what Horner says, Cadel will not attack.

I don't think LL will attck, but If I were Disco, I'd watch Evans closely. After his mini-escape on the sprint day before yesterday, anything is possible.

OK, you say Levi is going to attack. I thought the same yesterday, why not attack? Then some savvy posters here on BF reminded all of us the best sprinters will be vying for this stage. No, I think Levi will do as he says, take his third place and go home.

I don't care. You chose this one. If you want to show your superiority, you choose the subject.

While that may or may not be true, you can't be basing the conclusion on analysis of past Tours since this situation has never arisen before, and when a similar situation came up in at least one shorter stage race, the second place rider did go for the time bonuses.

Take a deep breath buddy; it's all good. My post was encassed in sarcasm tags ;) But if I do get to pick the next topic...City where we live. NYC kicks Albaqwerky's butt.

Not basing it on past tours, basing it on who the riders are, which (feel i have to state this or you'll pick on it :p) can in part be analyzed by past tours. Levi will definitely not attack...he's not the type of person who would flat out state in a post-stage interview that he "would not attack and Cadel has nothing to worry about" and then turn around and attack on the final stage; and in turn, Cadel is one of the gentlemen of the sport...just don't see him doing it either.

FixdGearHead I think you need to work on your humour there. The sarcasm tags didn't quite save you.

Bad choice. I doubt you've spent as much time here, as I have there.

It was a weak attempt anyway...don't even really like my town myself :o

I'd like to know how you've been able to watch this many GTs. I remember reading what little came across in the US back in the bike boom years (I really wanted a 531 Merckx for my first 10spd but had to settle). Then there was a huge dearth of info, with Lemond CBS started putting blurbs on Sunday, but I really haven't been able to watch anything until OLN/Vs came along and was part of my cable package starting ~ 2000(?). Did I miss out on some great TV coverage along the way? :(

Didn't say "watch"....but anyway, the topic is dead

God I hope Evans attacks.

Let him attack all he wants and watch him end up in third because if he attacks he will get the full force of discovery including a very motivated LL looking for any excuse to move up a place.

Completely moot now but there was no way in the world Bruyneel would've let LL attack. Evans would've covered it and maybe just maybe Contador gets caught out. So Levi becomes #2 but Disco loses the Yellow.

That would be a bonehead of unbelievable proportions. Bruyneel and his boys don't pull boneheads.

It is threads like THIS that make me look forward to July every year:rolleyes:

I've heard better arguments by my 5 and 7 yr old nieces.
