Classic & Vintage - Reccomend a good powder coater in the bay area

I live in sonoma county and called a lot of powder coaters they seem pricey. Is the going rate for a good powder coat 200$? I have heard of people getting a frame and fork done for a little over 100$. Is there a good place in the san francisco/oakland area that would do a good job for less money? I've decided either a pearly white or silver would be ideal.

Be sure to have either of those colors clear coated!
If you don't, the pearl or metallic flakes can be rubbed off by cable housing, etc.
You can have a clear powdercoat applied, or shoot automotive clear paint.

Alternatively, you could have the frame/fork powdercoated yellow, then spray the black fade and clear with automotive paints. That's if you want to go with the original color scheme.

As for the $200 price tag, that is at the UPPER end of the spectrum for single color frame/fork.
Probaly INCLUDES removing the old finish, bead or sand blasting, careful masking and possibly the clear coat. (NEEDED if the "color" is pearl or metallic.)

Still cheaper than my $300 basic PAINT job!
But with PC, you will see the pinholes in the brazing, as there's no hand finishing with PC.

And then there's the question of .....DECALS! :rolleyes:

The guy I have used with great results is San Juan Powdercoating.

There's a place in Haward that is supposed to a reasonable job for a pretty good price. I've never used them, though.

The price for 200$ did include the clear I believe.

While it was not noted that this was for a lugged steel frame, if lugged then avoid powdercoat, to get the film thickness that will protect the sharp egdes of lugs with powder will hide the lug work too much for my eye.

Save your money and pay for a nice wet paint job, there is even a guy who knows how to paint not too far away...and not the guy in Alameda.

Yes, and I now have some tube sets to go with them, Columbus, Reynolds and Tange. Now I better start mitering...
