I'm riding a ss/fixie in ss mode now to get used to mashing on hills. I was using Look pedals but have some SR pedals with cages/straps installed now. I have similar old-style pedals on a couple vintage bikes and have special slotted cleats. With or without the cleats I find it harder to get started with the cages than with clipless. I find it the same for both ss and geared.

Does anyone find clipless pedals work well for a fixie? I have an extra set of Look pedals and both double sided and single sided SPD pedals.

If you do a search, (ha ha ha) you'll find that this topic has been discussed a lot. It boils down to whether you like the efficiency and functionality of clipless, the convenience of clips, straps and sneakers, or the happy medium of walkable mtb clipless setups. It sounds like you are one of the people who likes efficiency and functionality (i am too), so i'd stick with a clipless setup.
