Like it says- after 6 years and countless miles, 1st. crash!
First thing I learned is that it hurts. Quite a bit.

Just an ordinary weekday ride, Friday actually- beautiful morning for an out and back on Dockweiller beach. On my return, just cooling off, approaching Hermosa Pier- red light ahead, wasn't even pedalling. There was a street sweeper 25 yards in front of me in my lane; I looked over my shoulder to make sure the adjacent lane was clear & and as soon as I looked back I went down. Didn't touch the brakes, road surface was fine- all I can think is that the sweeper had left enough spray to gliss up some oil and I was suddenly on an ice rink.

Went down hard, my left shoulder taking all the force. Broken clavicle.
I've never broken a bone in me' old bod, but knew straight away. Some road rash too, but no big deal.
After the x-rays, Doctor said "congratulations!- if you're going to break something, you might as well do it really well!"
So I'm screwed- will be out 6-8 weeks. There goes summer, including Cool Breeze.

Bummer. Yes it does hurt. Hopefully you'll be okay in time for the Fall riding season. It's the best anyway. :p

That sucks man! Same thing happend to me last summer, I was out for three months. I had to replace my frame (bent down tube) and build a new bike. I was riding centuries by November. Hope you recover soon and get back out there.

Thanks folks- the bike seems fine, though I don't have the strength to put it up on the stand for a thorough check. No visible damage & the wheels are true. I was slowing down, probably only at 12-10 mph when I went down like a haddock. My wife had to cut me out of my jersey & vest, but no other peripheral damage. Slight mark on my helmet, but don't remember hitting my head- I think the shoulder took it all.
