You're not supposed to tune into OLN during the rest day. You need to give the satelites a chance to recover and recharge.

Hmmm... that sounds like the kind of answers Bob Roll gives to the viewer emails during the Preview Show. :D

btw, bob's response to the "what's with the breakaway" question yesterday was priceless. "you see, the guys in the peloton are really stinky. so the guys jump off the front to get away from them. but then the peloton gets lonely. they MISS their friends, so they catch back up." gotta love bobke.

The good thing is we can talk about stuff going on without ruining it! It also means I can freely read the internet and watch tv without worrying that I'll accidentally see who won. That has happened a couple of times already. it's really hard to avoid the media all day and to stave off your curiousity!

In keeping with rest day, I'm not even going for a ride myself! I have a kink in my neck that makes it hard to turn my head so I'm RESTING.

The only time I have been able to check in on this forum has been during the two rest days. And Damn if ~Longrider~ didn’t ruin it for me.

I know! It can be hard to browse the web sometimes without catching a 'newsflash' on some website.

The funny thing is that these guys are riding harder on this rest day than we probably do on an intense 2-3 hour ride as part of thisr recovery.

To me that's a good thing. I think the sport of bike racing has grown in popularity in the United States. Just five years ago, TdF news would hardly be worth a mention in the media. Now it's all over the place. Maybe it's a small blurb here and there... maybe some 10 second video footage but I've also seen stage coverings on the front page of many newspapers. We probably still don't get access to as wide a coverage as folks in Europe or other parts of the world but it has grown significantly.

Yes, that's the good side, but they still have to discover that there is more than just the TDF and Lance. Maybe that'll happen, thanks to the internet. People can listen to races on audio, if they can't watch them on tv.

Our local newspaper, in which sports coverage is generally aimed at tubby, middle aged spectators, is actually running daily articles about the TDF, with photos and analysis. In recent years it was just the results. They don't do this much with the Giro or Vuelta, admittedly. And even when there are big MTB races they barely give it a paragraph, like when Roland Green won the Canadian champs this weekend. But they are gradually waking up to the fact that cycling is a sport like any other, it has fans as devoted as any other fans, and that cyclists are really athletes, not just skinny guys with shaved legs!

Was it just my imagination or did Kirsten say at the wrap up of last nights stage..."lets take a look at the 'genital' classification"...
or was it just me:confused:

Man am I glad today was a rest day. OLN replayed Stage 15 this morning and I was able to pop in a video tape so I'll be able to watch it again and again! Of course I've taped the Rest Day Recaps so far...

Indeed, she did! How about Paul Sherwin commenting on Lance "nearly losing his manhood on the topbar" during his Monday crash? That took grapes. Or not.
And is it just me, or does Paul appear a bit enamored with Miss Kirsten? Whenever she touches his arm, his eyes glass over and he gets that goofy grin!

Well, did she mean to say it, or is she just that clueless?

She stumbled through the word, eventually pronouncing it correctly, which only drew my attention!

Hey, why didn't OLN hire the dark-haired former racer lady who covered their mountain bike races last year? She also was on that product review show they had. She was cute!

Probably because she knew too much... :p

She's just too smart to cover these kinds of things. Kristen's obviously there for the eye candy factor, and not much else...
