I have found that the long hours in the saddle can cause some tenderness in the contact points, yep, that right your ass hurts. who whould have thunk, 8 hour a day sitting whould do something like that?

I find simply getting off you bike about once an hour or so works wonders. stretching your hamstring some how work well also.

Not sitting the whole time, get up and stand for a bit.

oh and proper saddle adjustment is a must.

Anyways, sheared tecniqus for preventing, and reliving pain. please share, don't be shy now.

First get a saddle that you like and is comfortable. Sure EVERY saddle after 4 hours hurts, but it shouldn't after 1 or 2. If yer...thingy get snumb after 1-2 hours it ain't a good saddle.

Standing periodically - yup.

Walking around every so often - yup. But it gets more freqent as time goes on and the relief doesn't last as long once you get back on again.

I find when it is cold my butt hurts more. Dunno why.

I have, when its really bad I sit on one butt cheek for awhile, then move to the other butt cheek. Backandforth, backandforth, et.

After 4 hours it aint fun anymore that's all I can say and is about all I can handle.

Really GOOD shorts. Put up the bucks and get the comfort.

As long as you are not looking at the shorts for padding that is a chamios you are siting on no comfort there except it keeps you dry I have this seat I got at the Seattle bike expo last year it be sort of funny looking but I put 6000 m on it last year and no pain, no break in period and still no real pain after 6hrs in the saddle

they are inexpensive (I bought the leather 19.95) and they are very comfortable I have them on my road bike and my commuter (haven't got one on the MTB yet) I will not go back to any other seat.

I whould not mountain bike on that seat if you paid me. it may be comfy, but it's way too wide. If you didn't rip your sack off pushing your seat though your legs in the steeps you'd get bucked fo'sure. I don't dought it's nice on a road/comuting bike.
I don't have it yet, but I'm getting one of these by SDG. They come stock on most high end Konas. they're da bomb.

I'm going to have to check that seat out I'll wait on the MTB. Though that seat is more versatile you do not have to sit up on it you can lean into it, which is what I do on the road bike when I am pushing for speed. MTB has different needs and skills I must learn before changing my seat that radically thanks for the tip
