We're riding Angeles Crest again this Saturday. I'll be starting at Charlton Flats at 8:00 and going to Wrightwood. Vertical Bob might start at Red Box a little earlier, and Thomson will probably start at the bottom, to get a metric double. Come on, you GMR fans, this ride is beautiful.

I'd be there for sure, but I have a date with Mt Tam on that day! Hopefully next time I'll be in town for it.

Seems like a convergence around Mt Wilson area this Saturday, huh? You and VB leading separate groups, and the CSUN #5... I'd like to start from the bottom, and maybe intersect with you guys at some point along the way.

I may just start at Charlton so please don't think I am "leading a group" from Red Box. Following a group maybe.:eek:If M.E. comes with me I'll need to save my legs for her. :) Last time we did this ride I got 8050 ft. in 73 miles. All above 5000ft. A decent day for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing my mountain friends again. I would like to cook up a plan to attend the Everest Challenge this fall.

Don't start this sandbagging stuff again. You can climb just as well as me and can even pull ahead at times. We do these rides as fun, social rides. We don't drop, at least not for long. We always wait at several places. You don't need to start early unless you want to ride alone, for cry eye! Remember what happened when you started early at the LAW ride? All that did was make me wear myself out trying to catch up.

 I'm shocked and dismayed at you, John. You used my expression - for cry eye. You mean business. :p Fine! I simply get intimated, okay, whenever Cathy and the other steel legged women in your harem show up. They DO drop my butt on the climbs (but they also do wait). I certainly didn't mean to imply you guys aren't social. :o

Listen BONGO. There is this little thing called 2-3 hours of driving to get to San Diego (unless at 3am in the morning with NO traffic on the 405 and even then it's at least 2 hours from the Valley). I will NOT be out of work until 6:30 or 7:00pm at the earliest on Friday. I'm not driving 2-3 hours in rush hour traffic to try and get there, go to bed and get back up in the morning for a century ride (I've done it before and it has worn me out). Where as, if I get off at 7 or 8pm on Friday, I can make a ride the next morning that goes up Angeles Crest for which the start is no more than 30 minutes from my place. IF I work later than 8pm on Friday (which could happen as it has quite a bit in the last two months since my company, um, bought Applebee's!), I'm sleeping in and doing my own ride on Saturday.
Geesh! You make it sound like I don't like you or want to ride with you, Bongo, but it's a lot to ask of a working girl. :o

M.E., I am thinking about doing this ride, if I can move a couple of things around on my calendar. So if your looking for a slow climber to ride with I should be there.
John,
I am hoping I can work things out for this ride. If you don't mind a slow climber, I wouldn't mind tagging along. I may be able to talk a couple of others from Santa Clarita to come along for the ride.
Are two bottles of water sufficient from Charlton Flat to Wrightwood, or should I think about using my Camelbak.

Not really, once your up over 5000 feet it's quite nice. All the low altitude climbing is in the morning. It gets a little toasty on the way back from Wrightwood but that's all.
Oh, OVO get off your ars and get out there with us!

We'd love to have you guys, Lee. From Charlton to Wrightwood is about 36-37 miles, but you can get water at Grassy Hollow, at the 30 mile mark, but that water isn't always good. I use a Camelbak, but some people don't. You can turn back anytime, if you don't feel like dropping down to Wrightwood.

There is also water at the campground on Table Mountain. That water tastes much better than the Grassy Hollow water in my opinion. It's just a mile up the hill on Table Mountain Road.

The latest forecast from NOAA says a high of 85 in Wrightwood for Saturday and this will be the hottest part of the ride. Elsewhere on this ride I think it will be cooler and probably in the mid 70s up high. Much of the ride is above 7000 feet.

6am sharp! It took me 2:05 to get to Charlton Flats last time, but that was mostly solo so with a group we should be able to get it under 2 hours to be up there by 8am for the late "I've got to sleep in and get my beauty rest":) starters.

Table Mountain Road is on the left about 20 feet past Big Pines Highway on Angeles Crest. There are some nice views of the Antelope Valley from up there and a disc golf course. I almost forgot that it's a 500 foot climb in that mile but it's worth it for the views and water.

Aside from the great scenery, moderate summer temperature, new road surface, challenging terrain, and light traffic there isn't much to be fascinated with.
I've never been to Reseda so I can't compare with where you are. Angeles Crest does beat Palmdale hands down especially when the temperature rises above 100F.

Couldn't have said it better. If you love road riding in the mountains, this is the best around. Oleg, if you try it, you'll agree.
