The route starts at the Trek Store in New Albany (no particular reason, it's just convenient to start at a bike shop), and makes a 56 mile out-and-back.
The first half is on roads (speed limits vary from 35-50 MPH), but they're well suited for cycling - either with recreation paths, wide shoulders, or relatively light traffic. Flat to gently rolling, with about 200 feet of elevation gain over ~14 miles. There are a couple of nasty hills just before Johnstown, but nothing too terrible.
The second half is on the Johnstown Trail, a nicely converted ~14 mile rails-to-trails path. No rollers here, just a gradual descent. You'll drop around 200 feet in the first 5-6 miles, then the rest of the trail is pretty much flat.
My next project will be to extend it down to Buckeye Lake, and then make it a loop instead of an out-and-back. I think I can make it a metric century without too much trouble, but I need to scout it first.
