No, I dont want clipless! some of the trails I ride, you have to get off your bike and hike small rocky hills. My Adidas running shoes arent cutting it :(. I was looking into some Salomon, Oakley and Nike hiking shoes. Not the high-tops but the low-tops. Sports Authority is selling these for $34.99:

those would probably be okay, but for riding flats vans, sketchers, or other flat sole shoe grips the pedal better. I ride with both flats and clipless, if you do try clipless get the specialized sport mountains. cheap and comfortable and they actually have some traction if you have to hike-a-bike

wont be any worse than the shoes listed above, might even be better.

The lugs on the sole of a shoe aren't going to make any differance in the hike-a-bike, but they will make it more challenging on flats to stay on and control the bike. Besides you should be learning to ride those hills, not get better shoes for walking up them

I wear DC skate shoes when I ride flatties... they're awesome. You want a shoe with a flat surface on the bottom for maximum traction on the pedal.

You try learning how to ride "up" a rocky hill that has the slope of a wall. It isnt possible. Theres no trail, no path, just slabs of boulders and sharp protrusions that "cant" be ridden on. Unless of course youre extremely ******** and could care less of your life or your bike.

I've ridden up things that were practically impossible to walk up.
