I'm starting a new thread here to post the plan and take a poll of likely attendees

When: Sunday August 12th. Roll at 8:00AM
Where: Start from my house in La Jolla
The Route: The route is basically two loops. The first goes North into Rancho Santa Fe and back to La Jolla along the coast - this is more or less the SDBC "B" ride. About 50 miles. The second loop goes through La Jolla, likely with a climb up Mt Soledad, and then goes around San Diego Bay, including a ferry crossing from Coronado to Downtown SD. Another 50 miles. There will be something less than 4000 ft of climbing, almost all of which will be in the 1st half of the ride. Here is the Bikely Mapwith cue sheet. It says 106 miles but it's more like 104 since we will not actually be riding our bikes across San Diego Bay.

If there are those, like Efficiency who only want to ride the 2nd half, they can meet us at a) the corner of North Torrey Pines and La Jolla Shores Dr if they want to do Mt Soledad, or wimpier still b) at the Mission Bay Visitor's Center on Mission Bay Drive.

After Ride: BBQ at Chez Indolent.

I will have two spare beds and a couple of couches available if anyone wants to come down Saturday night rather than driving early on Sunday morning. Let me know if you want to do that.

OK, you can do just the 2nd half but you have to do Mt Soledad. :rolleyes:

I am a maybe for this ride - sounds like fun. I am traveling the next day, so I may need the day before to finish off some work.

Dan - Here a MotionBased activity for the SDBC 50-mile ride. The route is extended a few extra miles to get to and from the from my house, but it should help with your route planning.

Okay, now I remember what's going on the weekend of 8/11. I have a wedding on the 11th to attend. I'm out for sure. It's a Chinese couple and it starts at 6pm with 14 dinner courses! I won't be out of there until late (and too fat to fit in spandex when all is said and done). :(

As for time, the visitor's center is 57 miles into the ride, we are starting at 8:00AM with a random motley assortment of typical BF riff-raff. Who can say?

that's just how i roll:eek:.....i would MEET you guys at the visitor center but wouldn't that cut out the climb up Soledad...If i do meet you guys at the visitor center i'll be there about 1130ish...you should be rolling thru about then huh or within the half hour...noon puts you at about a 14-15mph average?

Oh. I thought you wanted to wuss out on Soledad. If you want to do the climb you can catch us at the corner of Torrey Pines and La Jolla Shores Drive. That a ways before the climb but it's convenient if you want to park at my house and ride over there.
