with july coming to an end i realize that i have had a most excellent cycling month. perhaps the best ever in my short roadie lifetime :). great weather, quality rides, and fun organized events marked my month!

i am mainly a "weekend warrior" that might get a midweek ride in here or there. so, 566 miles in one month is a lot for me. the most i have logged in any one month. i pulled my biking stats from my training log.

Bikes: 11
Avg. MHR: 160.5
Avg. AHR: 126.3
Avg. Time: 02:51:07
Total Time: 31:22:22
Avg. Speed: 18.1 MPH
Avg. Mi Pace: 3:19
Avg. Dist.: 51.5 Mi
Total Dist.: 566.6 Mi
Avg. Cal. Burned: 2480.5
Total Cal. Burned: 27286

so tell me, how was your july? later.

I've been on a ton of business travel which has just hammered my stats :-(. However, I managed to ride about 200 miles over the last week which bumped my total to about 310 for the month. Not great, but not horrible I suppose. Hopefully August will be better.

i was on the fence with the marathon. the two buddies who talked me into have long since backed out and i have been really enjoying my cycling season. either way, i knew i needed to make a decision after the RAIN ride. i did and i am giving the marathon a go.

basically i have developed my own little 11 week training program. i know, runners every where will damn me and claim i dont respect the marathon. you need to be running 20 miles a week prior to starting a 18 week training program. i figure its not like i am going from couch to marathon. i mean have a pretty solid fitness base right now.

anyway, i am easing back into it, but fairly quickly. ran 17 miles last week with a long of 7. my goals is three runs a week and two rides. i will run one long run of 20 miles about 3 weeks out. should be interesting, i mean fun, i mean.....?

later.

You have nothing to fear from 20-mile-a-week pavement pounders.

Dude, you rode 160 miles of RAIN with like a 21 mph average. You did all 131 miles on the '200k' HHH back in June.

Have the running weenies stick that in their Respect The Marathon Pipe and smoke it.

My July?....

I've gotten out once. Yep, one time. I did the Metro Metric ride in Hampshire with the wife. I've just been very busy with work and doing some other things that have taken away from riding this month. I will be signing up for some rides in August through September to get motivated.

701 miles, best ever for a month (actually rode around a few parking lots yesterday to make it over the threshold).

Other than totals hours on bike and Average MPH on each ride, I don't keep or know other stats. Outside of the basic cyclocomputer, other gadgets are too much work. Kudos to the rest of you that track that stuff. Overall average would not be very representative since I probably have a quite a few junk miles.

Oh yeah, I don't know how many miles I had in July, but it was a pretty good month. First solo century, first time riding Ride Across INdiana. Made it up to ride hills in Wisconsin one Saturday. Helped pace some folks for 30 miles of their 300 mile in 25 hour charity ride this past weekend.

August should be a good month, too, barring that late summer malaise that sometimes sets in.

I always find it easier to get on the bike this time of year. I ran 5 miles this morning and was dying. Hot at 7 am but no too hot too ride at 4 this afternoon. I guess I just don't like running as much as cycling.
Good luck with the training.

For July, I have 458 miles with a late ride this evening. June was most productive month for me with a total of 574 miles and the most I ever rode in a single month and year. I'm way shy of my goal to ride at least 150 miles a week. August being the hotter month, I'll settle for 100+ miles per week. Unfortunately, I don't have a web based log to keep track of my progress and share with others. I have been keeping my ride record on a spreadsheet since I rediscovered cycling 2 years ago and I am happy to report, I made significant progress, have over 1300 miles so far this year.

Great month considering I had a week vacation that I did not ride at all.
Closing in on 2K for the summer

okay, I'll embarrass the hell out of myself and post my weenie miles...

230.75

but not bad considering I had a tumor removed from my neck on 6/29/07:D So I really didn't get out until 2 weeks after that, and even with that mileage the surgeon yelled at me on a post op appt:eek:

Maybe August will be different... but like someone said above, I'm a weekend warrior. I go to the gym during the week and ride on the weekends, so I'll never have high mileage, wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

okay, that's all :)

about 15 running

Lower than anticipated, but Strep Throat has laid me out two weeks in the month, and I "tapered" another week for the RAIN ride. Trying to pour it on for the DLD. May was my best month so far this year at 634 miles.

I'm back from Boulder, CO. That trip combined with RAIN gave me a big July, both cycling and running.

During the 8 days in Boulder I ran 56 miles and rode 102 miles! I have some active friends there! Also managed to work in a real vacation with the family as well. I love that place!!! Talk about a biker's paradise. Great places to ride and the most cycling friendly place I've been. I climbed and biked over 10,000 feet during my time there.

Anyway, the overall stats are

Running 102 miles

Biking 463 miles

I didn't run/bike the 5 days before RAIN so this was some pretty good mileage for me.

As for calories burned, I burned off a million but probably ate a gazillion so no change in weight!!!:p:D

I actually like running and biking equally. I love both of them. However, on hot days like these, I'm so happy to jump on my bike for my cardio instead of running.

Let's get August going!

I'm glad you're recovering well and I think that's great mileage considering your surgery.

It really is hard with cycling to get in the miles if you only have the weekends but, why stress about it? Enjoying it is what it's all about anyway! Take care of yourself, whitesox. Crystal

My July mileage was a little low so I threw in the running to make myself feel better when I read this post.
Running his very hard for me, I am not a runner but I have a nice 5-6 mile loop that I run on the lakefront path that gets me outside on nice summer mornings and also allows me some cardio in November- December when it is too cold for me to bike.
Throw a little weight workout in as a footnote- why not?

I'm not a runner either, but I am proud of the fact that I have worked into the ability to run 2.5 miles non-stop.....seriously I'm such a bike weenie. I run during lunch on days I don't commute by bike to work. I threw my running mileage (actually a guess) in just to look cool.

the tracking really isnt that hard. you just take the basic numbers you already get and punch them into a log, like the this one... My Log (http://www.buckeyeoutdoors.com/cgi-bin/training/traininglog?guest=aham23)..., and it will spit out all kinds of reports with fun numbers.

looks like a lot of us had a great july! :D

aham23, you sure impressed me with your genius of keeping records on line. What do I need to do that? Buy a Garmin 305?

aham23
08-01-07, 08:26 PM
^^^^ genius! now that is good stuff :)!

actually for the training log i linked above i manually enter the data. meaning i dont directly upload it from a garmin or other device. so, all you need to know are the numbers and you can enter a workout. all you need is your basic cycling computer. the site if free. i prefer this log as i can track all my activities and not just cycling.

if you mainly cycle something like bikejournal.com (http://bikejournal.com) may be more appropriate. another free site. MyBikeJournal (http://www.bikejournal.com/journal_public.asp?rname=aham23).

for me, tracking the numbers is part of the fun. later.
