Mountain Biking - My first real bike: Trek 4500

Hi all,
First, thanks to all the people here. I have read numerous posts and finally decided to pull the trigger. I have also looked at Ibex Ingnition (fs bike), but I don't think it's going to make much of the difference between the hardtail that I got and their FS. I think I got a very good deal ($275.00). Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to do some test drive.

Congratulations. This forum pointed me in the right direction for a good bike too which I bought today. I was recommended the Specialized Hardrock but I went to the dealer and they didnt have any. I asked him what would be comparible to it and he pointed me towards the Jamis Crosscountry 2.0. It suits the kind of riding I want to do and from what people have said it's better than the hardrock. I ended up paying $306 total (All the cash on me). Originally it was $315 with tax but he let me have it for cheaper since thats all the cash I had.

$275 is an excellent price. I paid $350 for a 4500 in 2001

Nice ride, that's been my MTB of choice for the last couple of years.

Have fun on the trails. The Trek 4500 is a beautiful bike. Don't you just love the weight of it?

I just came back from biking. I have been biking every day after work for about an hour each day. It's great except for my butt. I've lent my camera to my friend, so I will post the pix when I get the camera back.
One small question: how easy it is to install the disc brake? I have been seriously thinking about the Avid Mechanical Disc Brake set. Thanks.

If you have the frame mounts, all you need is disc hubs. Other than that, installation can't be too hard. I'd always follow a manual for the procedure, such as Barnett's. :D
