Bicycle Mechanics - dented head/fork tube

hi I just received this in the mail. Broke my heart to find it like this. It's a steel frame and haven't tried the headset or anything yet. Might return, but they don't have any more in stock so will have to re-order something else. :( Can this be bent back or fixed, any other ideas?

If I already owned it I'd try working it back round with a ball peen hammer until I got it to the point where I could press a steel headset race into it.

Since you appearantly just bought it I'd have to send it back. No way would I pay regular price since it's so obviously damaged.

It was insured, wasn't it?

I'm with RG on this one. It's probably fixable if you bought it as a scratch & dent, but not when it's supposed to be perfect. :(

+1... Do not try to put a headset in that. Just send it back - as previously stated if you already owned it, and you did the damage, you fix it (it is repairable), however purchased new... return it.

Without a doubt, it has to go back. Here's a tip if you were to try to fix something like this. Get one of those muffler tools that you can crank down and it expands from the inside in a circular pattern. hard to explain, but you know what I mean if you see it.

+1. The dent looks fairly deep and beyond minor repair efforts. Return the frame and keep looking.

just got off the phone with the wheelandsprocket (where I bought it) guys and they were awesome. Sent them the pics and they said to send it back. To bad there is no more in stock so will have to keep looking. Any good deals on track framesets out there? :)

Hitting it w a ball peen hammer won't give you a good, round fit. You need to press a slightly tapered cone into it which is likely to give you a much better, round fit.
