Here's my latest idea:
Essentially, it'd be like a truck stop for cyclists, placed in a part of a city where it would be close to a lot of commuters' workplaces. I think people would enjoy a place with healthy food, basic supplies (tubes and such), a locker-room with pay showers, a helpful staff, and maybe even indoor racks. Plop that in the middle of a business district, and maybe add a bike repair shop if there wasn't one already. Whadda y'all think? I think it could be feasible (somewhere) in a few years.

Kinda like this?

Different locations have different facilities. Here in downtown Seattle they have secure indoor bike storage (available to members 24/7) and a bike shop during business hours. A locker room with showers would be awesome but it takes space and a lot more upkeep (read $$$$) than what's there.

If the price were reasonable I think that'd be a pretty awesome idea...something tells me something like that would be very expensive though, for everyone involved.

I'd be down for that, but it would have to have individual bike workstations, complete with Internet, computers, bike stands for working on your bike, a java shop, food shop etc.
totally down for that!!!!

Anything is possible...build it and they will come?:p There was a bike shop in Winston-Salem, NC that was sort of like that. He had a inside bike storage area, with showers available. There was also a coffee stand right inside the front door:p I am not sure if it is still there or not. I know at one point he was planning on moving to a different location. At the time I was last in there he only had a bout 3-5 regular commuters using his shower and storage facilities. FWIW he was right across the street from the main bus transfer station. So the location wasn't bad for multi mode commuters.

Not exactly what you are describing, but getting close. This bike shop/cafe is a great place to get some gear, a tune-up, or whatever while getting your lunch or coffee. The people running it are friendly and nice to, no pretentious attitudes here, no showers though....

Will they be riding bikes to deliver food you order from the kitchen? That's a neat idea but probably it would be better if it's a bike shop with all the amenities by the OP.

Carolina Triathlon in Greenville, SC is similar to that. The coffee shop is on one side, bikes across from the bar and service section is in the back. They are right in the revitalized downtown area. Not my style of shop but they were able to order what I needed.

I think a cross between a coffee shop and a bike shop with showers is an excellent idea, probably have to be pretty urban and pretty progressive. That stated, what about a college town? anyone ever hear of Mnt. Pleasant MI?

College town is what I was thinking, too. Too bad mine's not sprawled enough to really need it.

What I want most out of life is simply a bike shop that stays open until midnight.

It sure would be nice to have Bike friendly everything, what you say about a Bike Stop that had all services would be quite the deal.
If there was a bike friendly any kind of store I would go there.
Well to my nephew, my place is just that, he comes here, showers, eats and uses my shop to fix his bike, all hours of the night,,, HE's lovable .........
