While at Camping World today, I saw they had the Dahon Boardwalk for $299.99! It seems like a pretty fair price for what looked like a pretty well built bike.

I see at the Dahon web site that the Boardwalk is not listed as being sold in the US. Anybody know what the deal is here? I started to get one, but decided to read up a bit on this bike! I actually don't need another bike, BUT a folder would be handy to keep in the RV and use for recretion/site seeing rides!

What do I need to know?????

Thanks, Al

Are you sure its not $199? I think $299 is a lot of money for a Dahon Boardwalk. Its single speed.
For $299 I think I would start looking at Downtube or Dahon's with multi gears.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. It was equiped with the short cage rear deraileur, SRAM MRX shifter I think it was 7 spd, had the new HB stem, fenders and Luggage rack! Oh yeah, the color was Sage!

They also had the YEAH single speeds priced at 2 for $299 or 1 for half that!

ahorner----that's really strange. I was under the impression that the Speed D7 sort of replaced the older model Boardwalk. The '06 model D7 is cobalt blue and sells for about $300, and the '07 D7 model is sage (pea soup...yuck) and sells for about $350

That's a very good price if it's an '07 Speed D7. Shoot I paid $299.00 for my '06 Speed.

IIRC there is no 2007 version of the 7-speed Boardwalk.

It's almost certainly a left-over from 2005, when they last sold that model.

Yeah, but we got the better color (cobalt blue, as opposed to the '07 model's puke green, right?!?!) ;)

Amazon has a rebagged Dahon for $168. Its called Schwinn Hide-A-way. I think its a great deal , since it can use Dahon parts.

EDIT: Its now unavailable. :( I could swear they were selling this last night.

You're right about that. I like the color that came with the '06. How's your D7 doing so far? I got 1200 miles on it and barely used it during July. Rode my other bike mostly last month. I'll be switching back to the D7 this month.

When I saw them last month they looked like the new puwk green Speed 7's. We bought our 2005 Boardwalks 7's from them over 2 yrs ago, and my FUN red Boardwalk single-speed, too.

Wife and I (she on her D7 speed me on the S1) did a 10 mile ride around the neighborhood with our daughter and 10 yr old grandson today - had a great time...and he and his mom are on new, full-sized Gary Fishers.

We are 64 & 62 and I will be riding the Portland Bridge Pedal again this yr (3rd time) on my D7 - will likely do the 24 mile route this time.

I am 6'3" with long arms, and although I'd like a folder that fit me a bit better, I have no problem doing these distances on the D7. The only other issue is the need for more gears for steeper hills.

"For several months now I've been trying to warm up to that color on my '07 Speed D7, haven't managed yet. For anyone that likes naming their bikes I offer "snot rocket" and "vomit comet" since I've decided I don't name bikes anymore..."

Interesting names!!! ;-)) Actually, The color was fine with me, as it was a shade of green that I liked. As far as the bike is concerned, I'm thinking it is an 07.It had a luggage rack but the Dahon web site doesn't indicate that it does! Other than that the specs seemed to agree!

Since I am interested in it to travel in my RV, it won't see a lot of miles! As I indicated in the OP just tooling around the campgrounds, site seing and such! I have a Raleigh Twenty and I enjoy riding it, but it is a pretty good specimen so I don't want to bang it around or leave it outside "tied" to the RV. Oh well, just my thoughts!

Thanks for the replies!

Wow, that's a great deal for tha bike...very similiar to the D7, but about $100 cheaper than the '06 model. It's aslo about 14 lbs heavier, but I really like that metallic green color.

Mokaimo-
; ) you're a good sport. I remember your earlier post about this. The sage green is actually not all that bad. Not my favorite, but it does have a strange sort of appeal to it (my local bike shop carries it...). I do like the telescoping handlebars on it though, it makes it quite easy to remove the handlebar frame for packing purposes...great for travel.

wrafl: Good to hear from you....the D7 is doing great. I haven't put nearly as many miles on mine as you have on yours (work has been keeping me busy all day and night, and many weekends....), but every ride on it has been excellent. No problems, adjustments or fixes needed so far, although I ended up buying one of those topeak 8000 in 1 pocket tools just in case (although I honestly don't know what I'd do if I needed to fix anything on the fly). ; ) I know that the NYC biking groups (5bbc.org and timesup.org) sponsor free bike repair classes every once in awhile, so I am going to try and attend one some evening (again, if I ever get out of work ealry enough).
