Hey everyone I'm a newbie to this forum but not to bike riding :)
Anyway just a couple of problems I just wanted to see if anyone could help me out a bit.

1. I have managed to buckle my rear wheel, like not a little bit, absolutley screwed lol. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to remove a buckle in a wheel, I've seen it done before on worse wheels so yea...

2. I have disc brakes on my bike but they are the worst brakes you'll ever see. It's only a cheap bike but is there a way to fix these? I think it may be the disc that is the problem but they won't come off the rim and I don't have the money at the moment to get new stuff. So is it possible to do something to the discs or what?

I guess what I'm looking for is some DIY tips to fix these probs.

If you want exhaustive answers we need photos and more accurate descriptions.

1) Read up on wheelbuilding and wheel truing on sheldonbrown.com

2) Probably cleaning the rotors and pads and adjusting the brakes will help to an extent.


Edit: both are relatively tricky jobs that may be impossible to do properly due to the poor quality or sorry state of the parts involved. If you're too lazy to read up/work on this a lot or are mechanically challenged you may be better off going to a shop or a knowledgeable friend.

how about going to local library and picking up a bicycle repair manual. There are some pretty good ones out there. Then you can look up the problem and determine if you can handle it or need to take it to bike shop. I've also seen want ads in the my local craigslist for people needing help with bike maintenance. I personally exhaust every effort before going to lbs(too expensive)
