View Full Version : How many Clydes/non-Clydes post here?

We had so many people post in the "how old are you" thread, I was wondering if we were all Clydes, or if some non-Clydes just liked the company here? Or maybe there's some not-quite-Clydes...

Oh, and the "official" designation for Clyde is 200+ for men and/or over 6 feet tall, right? Women are over 150 with no height? Is that right? Let me know and I'll change this first post if I'm wrong.

The definition is goofy, though, since 150 is not that heavy for a muscled female, especially since we're getting so tall nowadays. Plus a 5'5, 190 lb male is probably a Clyde, too.

I think it boils down to, "You know if you're a Clyde.."

Im working hard on unjoining the ranks here, but for the time being I am still quite a bit of a clyde. (267->230 so far!)

Yep. Working on not being a Clyde, but it's a ways. ~260 now. Was 327, so I'm gettin' there!

Edit: I don't think I'd leave after getting under 200, though! This forum rocks!

I was still 310 this morning so I won't be going anywhere for a while. Realistically I won't ever be under 200 so you're all stuck with me for good.

I'm a for-real Clyde. One day I hopefully won't be, but I'll still stick around.

Yep, same here. Every bodyfat test I've taken since I was a junior in high school put my lean mass at basically 200#. Unless I lose a limb somewhere. . .

Not an Athena, although I've been there due to fun with medications.

This is a friendly, warm group of people. You're here to get motivated, and to keep others motivated as well. I like that.

5'10" 249 pounds this morning... weighed 265 this winter... doubt I'll ever see under 200... more of a John Deere body type than a Ferrari.

Ditto, I will be here forever. I quite like it here, so that works out well.

If I put on about 45 pounds I'd be a Clyde. I post all over the place...

Hey, Tom, can you change "an Clyde to a Clyde" in the above poll? I was, as usual, thinking differently than I was typing. You can delete this post then, too, or I can.

I am an ex-UberClyde. I think to some degree once you have been an UberClyde that is always in the back of your mind somewhere. As the weight and weight maintenance really can shape our lives.

Super-Athena now, and when I finally get to my goal weight will STILL be Athena. Just a fit, slim, strong one!

I just did. I must say that I am very impressed by your weight loss. I can't wait for the day that I can show similar pictures. :)

I'm a perma-Clyde. Even at 0% bodyfat, I'd still weigh 215 or so.

I don't post here too often but do like reading the group. Ten years ago I would have fit the description for Athena but lost the weight and have maintained it for several years.

I know the Historian from another group and have always admired his accomplishments in weight loss and learning to ride a bike:)

I'm a perma-Clyde.

Me too. At 6'6"/250lb, I am a bit heavy, but I haven't seen <200lb since I was in college, and I'd be pretty darn thin at 220lb.

I don't think I'll see the underside of 2 bills again. I'll be happy when I cut it back to 210-220. @ 6'4"

At 6'1" and 250 I am official. 230 is honest to gosh fighting weight for me. They used to call me Rick the Thick and it is not a reference to my head either.

I'm an ex-UberClyde too, Mike. I'm still pretty close to Clyde-size, in the 190 lbs range, and still think of myself as a Clyde. Probably will think that way forever. Especially on this forum, where the road racers tend to be pretty fast and under 170 lbs.

Have fun out there!

I am just under 6'-0", 254 when I weighed in on Monday. My goal is to get back to 175. Thats not far, but I am having lots of problems just staying under 250. Anyway, I would be a clyde even If I did make it to my goal weight. Sparkles says I'm a fathead (and that was the only printable word she used) the other day:eek:

I am also 51, so I post in the 50+ forum too. They are a nice bunch, and put up with my posts:D

I have approached the Athena status a few times. Never quite got there but love all the great advice and encouragement here anyway. The 50+ and Clydes/Athena forums are great fun to read & relax.

I'm a just-barely Clyde at 6' 2" and 205, but I've been as high as 222, and I'm pretty comfortable at 205. I think this group is extremely useful for all of us that don't fit the prototypical bike-racer mold, as we need to discuss such things as stronger wheels, smaller gear ratios for getting up the hills, larger clothing, etc...

I'm 6' and 237# - would be way pleased with 210#. I lift weights and probably will never be under 200 again unless I'm sick.

I think your missing a category Clyde Emeritus as a few folks have gone from Clyde to Emeritus status, and those should really be counted differently then folks who have never been over the limit.

43 years old in a couple of weeks, 5'9", and 207 as of last night. High blood pressure (under control with meds) and high colesterol. I'd like to see 185 by the end of the year. Ultimate goal is 170.

I will always be a Clyde (6'6" 285) unless I hack off a limb and huff on the crack pipe for a while. The people here are far more considerate than the arrogant elitist scrawny punks over in Road Cycling:D

I was over 200 for a while, but I was't biking at that point. I'm now 185 or so, but Tom has been so helpful in other forums he, and the rest are sucking me in. (I don't ever expect to be a hyper-racer weight weenie)

I guess I'd have to be a Clyde Emeritus. I was 250, now 185 at 5' 9 3/4".

I'm trying to get to 175, but if I stay in this range, I won't be worrying over it. I'm more stoked about my blood pressure. (There's an oxymoron lurking in that statement...) At 105/60, my current systolic (high number) is 15 points lower than my diastolic (low number) used to be.

Yeah, I was 170-something/120. A stroke in the making, for sure.

Resting heart rate hovers around 60 usually, but can go as low as 52 when I'm particularly laid-back.

I guess now you understand my sig line...
