Southern California - Mo'Phat's Phat Rancho Santa Phatride - Sunday 8/5

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Mark/efficiency. Let me know if you want a tire or two. I have 4 new ones from PBK when they were on sale. Since I don't need them now, you can just wait until they go on sale again and return them to me. :)
They are Vittoria Rubino Pros. 3x red, 1x blue. I like them more than the Mich Krylon that I have on another wheel, but I guess it's more of a personal thing. Felt like the Vittoria's are more direct/good road feel while the Mich's are quite squishy/remote. It may just be a mental thing since I don't ride that much.
I bought two today. I cool. Thanks though.

Well, if you'd stop blowing people in your lab, that wouldn't happen, would it!? ;)
Where I work blowing people in the lab would get you fired.
All prepped for tomorrow. :) Those of you driving to the start on I-15 north, please try to avoid running into Vivian. If you must ram into me because I failed my test in my faith in humanity, okay, but please, don't take it out on her. :p
I expect to roll a bit before 6 AM. Twenty miles in 1:20 (15 MPH average) shouldn't be too hard to do, and that leaves a bit of time to top off bottles before rolling with the group on time.
About to head out the door. See you guys soon.

I'm looking to join part of this ride (need to head home after the Torrey - live near UTC) so to get the mileage in is there anyway I can meet you guys along the way?
Option 1) - There's a 7-Eleven on West Valley Pkwy just past the Home Depot I think...
Option 2) - The Starbucks on the east corner of La Costa + El Camino Real
Option 2 is probably easier logistically...
Thanks,
Ian in SD
Ian: I'll PM you my cell #. Not sure when we'll be at option #2...but I'm thinking between 8:30 and 9.
Option #1 is a little out of our way, and someone would have to break off the actual route to come meet you.
Hope we see you there!

Looks like you had a decent group. I passed you on Del Dios going the opposite way. Hey Patrick, not used to seeing you in full spandex. You always have full leathers when I see you. Hope you all had a great ride.

awesome ride. it was great meeting everyone. Denton, I thought I recognized those tats from a distance! And spandex is not flattering on me :) I need to get around to putting my leathers on sometime in the near future!
till next time gents!

efficiency, hope you're feeling okay. It was a really fun ride, at spirited enough a pace that I decided to give my all at the group ride and not ride back afterward. I could make it back. About 20 miles with 7 hours' daylight left... piece of cake. But it was far more fun sticking around for a group lunch. Thanks Mo'Phat for organizing, and thanks DaveSANYYZ for the ride home (thus allowing me to stick around for lunch).

It feels so nice being evil and tempting Jschen to skip his bike ride home and take a ride in a car instead. Hehehe.
Nice to see everyone. Great ride! :D

Thank you Karen, Dan, Mark, Mark, Patrick, Jason and Dave for joining me. I like the route, save for all the signals and stop signs on the 101.
I took about 20-25 pics, but don't have any time to do anything with them today...but hopefully they'll be up tomorrow. Thanks for humoring me with gratuitous pics of suffering at the tops of the climbs.
There were only 2 climbs on the entire route anyway.

It was great fun.
BTW, when Chucklehead is not present, Mo'Phat assumes the mantle of "the Punisher," with the additional title of "Ride Leader from Hell". As he mercilessly pulls away from his hapless charges, leaving their bones to bleach in the desert, he jeers "Ya, Ya, I must drop you now, you silly weak persons!"

I need a dang rear view fredmirror. When I hear someone on my wheel, I pull...that's just how it goes. If you're going to fall off, say something like "Dropping off, thank you" or even a polite, "Dammit you *****hole! Slow the eff down! This ain't the goldarned Ronde de Flanererererereenen!!" I honestly thought there was someone right on my wheel most times.
It's Jschen that needs the talking-to.

hey, i was there. i may not have ridden with you guys, but just seeing all of your beautiful, smiling faces before and after the ride was a great treat. let's do it again sometime!

What did I do now?
Mo is trying to blame you for his treachery. Apparently whenever you darted ahead of him he would respond like a crazed rabid greyhound chasing down an electric bunny. After catching you and dropping you like a moldy donut, he would fail to notice that no one was behind him for a long long time.
Allegedly this is all your fault.
You worm.

What did I do now?
Well, as "Ride Leader", I thought it was my job to maintain a pace that would keep everybody together in aerobic bliss...but then I'd look over and there you'd be (in the drops, gnashed teeth, tunnel vision on the horizon, hammering at four hundred and TEN watts), which led me to think I was a poor "Ride Leader", with no sense of the correct pacing.
I'd catch back up to you (all the while thinking I was leading this epic echelon up to your back wheel), and when I got to you, I thought, as "Ride Leader", I should do my duty to give you a little rest after hammering at 410 watts.
So, it is your fault.
And Dan's fault...for giving me the title of "Ride Leader", and chastising me whenever I wasn't performing in that capacity.

So, Mark (efficiency) and Karen 'brushed wheels' and Mark 'touched the floor' on the 101. Good thing there's not much traffic, and hardly more than a few hundred people noticed. Some rash on Mark, but that's not important. Bike suffered some shredded bar tape...
