Is anyone doing the above event? http://www.boulevardtour.org/questions.html

I have no knowledge of Chicago (moving there in 3 weeks and this forum has been invaluable, thanks) or this event and would love to know if the 62 miler is worth doing.

Thanks

Ben

It looks like a decent ride to see the city. I have not done this ride before. It looks like it starts on the southside.
Here is another ride that is not too bad. I have done this one the last few years. It starts just north of the city in Evanston.

It is the Northshore century. They have different length routes also. There might be a few people from the forum there as well to hook up with if you want.

Hmmm. The the meeting point for that boulevard tour starts about 100 feet away from my condo. Interesting. Does anyone know anything about the routes used for this ride? Do riders compete with city traffic? Are streets closed? Just curious.

Most of the competition is with cars triple-parked in front of some churches along the boulevard route. :)
The busiest stretch I recall is from the west/northwest side down southeast to downtown and the lakefront. Depending on the particular route, you could be in mostly dedicated bike lanes, but also shared city street traffic.

The ride is early enough in the day that traffic is pretty light. You're moving along with dozens or perhaps hundreds of others. Rest areas are blocked off.

Are there maps anywhere for the routes?
I could do this, its a somewhat familiar area for me.

Time to resurrect an old thread. Is anyone doing the 2008 version tomorrow?

Late to the game, but yes I will be heading out with my girlfriend for the short loop.

Does anyone know if you can just hop on the route at any point?

You could hop on, you just won't be able to get water/food at the rest stops (unless you have your rider numbers on).

I did it last year and it was fun. It is a relaxed ride and you'll see all sides of the city.

oh yeah.. and welcome to Chicagoland. If you are not from the Chicago area, then "Chicagoland" sounds odd. Sort of like Disneyland but for a city. I can always tell if the flight crew is from Chicago by the landing message...they say, "Have a pleasent stay in Chicagoland" as opposed to "have a pleasent stay in the Chicago area."

Did anyone end up doing it? I did the 62 and it was gorgeous weather! Couldn't have asked for better.

I did the 62 as well. It was a lot of fun. There were definitely some amazing neighborhoods out there that I had never had the pleasure of seeing before. Beverley is gorgeous. My wife got a little annoyed as I pointed out every shot I had ever hit at both Jackson Park and South Shore golf courses, but she managed to push through.

I'll definitely be back next year.
