I am looking for a route to get in a lot of miles on a TT bike. I dont really like riding it in traffic , and am not strong enough to ride it on a lot of the local hills. I ride it in the park but it is difficult to string together many miles without stops, parking lots, golf carts, etc. I am jut getting used to riding in the new position so would llike to be able to concentrate on form rather than obstacle avoidance. I live in Burbank so evrything I have tried has too much traffic/stoplights or too much hill involved. I guess I am asking does anyone one know where the nearest 30 mile stretch of deserted road is?

Drive to Palmdale. You will find plenty of rarely used, fairly flat roads.

Good training, too, for windy rides. :D

Well yes, leave the disk wheel at home.
They actually held the state time trial championships at Edward's Airforce Base in 1996. Many people left their disks in the car and used a spoked rear wheel. Even those with Specialized (now the Hed 3) wheels were having trouble riding in a straight line.

Crowded river trails are a little sketchy for a novice on a TT bike, and was hoping for something closer than P'dale but thanks for the input.

I was there spectating in 1995. A few riders got completely blown off the road as they turned around to come back.

Start at the Rose Bowl early morning, you can do 20-30 miles pretty quickly, get some moderate climbs, and avoid most people and not have to deal with stop signs and lights.
I've been riding there a lot more early morning and it's nothing like it is in the evening.

Do a PCH ride starting at Neptune's Net (Venutra county line, X-Street Yerba Buena) and head up towards Camarillo. The shoulder on PCH is quite wide at that point, and Las Posas is generally deserted early weekend mornings. It's about 15-16 miles from the start to Camarillo with 1 stop sign (which I always blow, and I never blow stop signs) and 2 or 3 traffic lights when you're getting close to Camarillo. That ride has some very gentle rises, but nothing resembling a climb, it's cool by the ocean, and has great scenery (until you get to Las Posas.) The out and back should be just over 30 miles.
I've been doing that for my flat rides recently. There just aren't any stretches that meet your exact requirements close to L.A.

foothill near hansen dam is close and will let you get in a few miles without much interuption. wentworth is good also as it's about 4 miles with no stops but is a slight climb most of the way and the pavement is not great, i.e. crappy for a lot of it. you can make a clockwise loop out of it where you won't have to stop much if at all. glenoaks-osborne-foothill-wentworth. or you could use the piru tt course off of the 126 on guiberson road. hwy 126 isn't bad either
