Just bought a MTB (thought I'd mix things up a bit) and now am in a search for nearby MTB trails. I've heard of Limekiln in Northridge. Anyone have some other suggestions for MTB trails in or around the Northridge/Granada Hills/Chatsworth area? Also, is Limekiln still open? Thanks.

Unfortunately much of the wilderness in that area is closed off thanks to a 50 year old nuclear meltdown. You can ride 5 miles down Reseda to the south end of the valley and ride dirt Mulholland at the top of Reseda. The Santa Susana pass has some short trails you might enjoy riding on. Finally, to the east are some decent trails in Sylmar, such as Wilson Canyon.

There are some excellent trails off Rocky Peak and Yosemite on the east end of Simi Valley. Also, Chesebro in Agoura Hills is the gateway to a major network of trails, but that's on the southwest side.

I have not tried them....also supposedly in burbank glendale you can ride the fireroads to the top of the Verdugos!

Part of the Rocketdyne grounds. Unfortunately, the area apparently has a historic Native American meeting ground with a painted rock that is perfectly lighted at sunrise on Winter Solstice, but the area is contaminated so nobody can go hiking up there, and they are reported to have planted poison oak to keep people from trespassing.

Aren't you fairly close to the Santa Monica Mountains? Some great trails to explore there. Look up mountain biking in the Santa Monica Mountains for information.

I'm pretty close to the Santa Monica mountains, but was hoping to find something closer so I could ride to the trail instead of having to drive there (OK, I'm lazy). Thought there may be some trails around O'Melveny Park. Also read some stuff re Limekiln, which seems to be nearby.
