Commuting - Am I wrong to think this way?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So,.... Thought I had found a job today, turns out they picked someone
else. BUT, the job would have come with a van, which I was supposed to
take home. Is it wrong that I feel a little relieved because the job would
have meant I wouldn't get my bike commute in?
It's not like I don't need to find work....:p

Some of the big reasons I picked my current job were because they had showers, bike lockers, regular lockers, and the boss supported my active lifestyle. I think these kinds of things (as the thing you pointed out) are "perks" of the job because they're important to us, and they should be considered as part of the picture when deciding on a job.
That's how I would have felt.

The OP didn't mention anything about actually DRIVING the van. Just taking it home ;)

Given what I have read about the job market in Calgary, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Get a job you like.

Could you have parked the van somewhere else and then rode you bike to it? Maybe out in the country so you get a more relaxed ride?

Well I could have done that, but I think they would have regarded that a little strangely.:)
As one of the other posters said, its a hot job market here, I could be working today if all I care about is a pay check. I'll keep on looking. Something is gonna turn up.
At least I am not alone in my madness! :D Thanks for the replies.
I'm pretty picky about my jobs. I transferred to a different location (same company) that was the same distance from my house, but a much nicer commute.
Some people would think that's nuts. But I know you guys understand.

But strange makes people remember you more ;) My wife has a town vehicle but rides her bike when she isn't on call. Everyone knows she does it even the captain it is just another thing that makes her easier to remember.
Everyone thinks she is crazy since the only reason they can keep their jobs sooo far from home is because they have a town vehicle and the town gas pump to fill it. Of course they dont' use it for personal use but some of their commutes are more of a distance then they actually drive during the course of their work shift.
I did decline a job with that same town because they were going to make me drive and not provide a town vehicle.

I recently was seeking a job. I always googled the address to see where it was located... how accessible it was for biking. I lucked out on the job i"m in now (not an idea position but it works): my commute is a hair over 5 miles -- all but 4 blocks on paved commuter paths thru Madison. Sweet!
I think accessibility via bike is a GOOD criteria to add to 'how good is his job?'
